hey lads and lasses, trying to take the flywheel off my 1275 is getting the better of me, im after going through a couple of pullers and 1 broke this morning .... not only that but i busted my housing too .....
does anyone know where i could possibly get a decent flywheel puller around the kildare/wicklow/dublin side of the world??
Without sounding smart the first question is did you remember to remove the washer.
Make sure the three bolts are equal lenght when screwed in so its pulling dead straight.
Leave it under tension for a few hours and then come back and bang it.
Is it in the car or out?
hey woody, is that the lock tab washer? yea i removed that and all bolts were put on at equal lenghts. tried banging the puller bolts and the flywheel through the starting motor hole which only gave me more work, at one stage she was left under tension for 4 days and still not a budge, i supose the heating/quenching way might be worth a shot?... it still has a puller on under tension but the main bolt lost its head haha.
bert and gtm
thanks for the offer lads, i still have her under tension so i might try the heating/quenching today and hopefully that will work... if not i may give one of you's a shout.
What type of flywheel is it, some of the billet steel ones from the UK had a habit of welding themselves to the crank, unfortunatley the only way was cutting it off, trust me with a billet crank this was an expensive option. Seen more than my fair share do this. Just a quick check when you took off the lock washer and tab washer behind the bolt then replaced the bolt you did leave it protuding from the face of the flywheel say 3-5mm.
wahay after a bit of heat she popped, its a standard metro flywheel. i didn't use the bolt with the puller because the laser kit comes with like a block of round bar for it. the lump that broke off i have attached a pic of... can anyone say if its repairable or scrap?? are there replacement items redily available? are mini and metro ones interchangeable??
thanks for the help.
Hi davey I remember Reading on another forum if the housings your swopping are both A or A+ it should be ok but one of the lads on here would know for sure. I did the exact same damage as you but not as severe as for buying one somerford mini should have them, doubt they'd be cheap though
jocelynn, would you have a metro 1275 housing??... i will try and find out if a+ mini housings will fit and let you know how i get on.... thank you for the offer
You can change the bearings from the damaged one over to the new one but you need a special blind bearing puller to remove the old bearing and sleeve without damaging the casing.
A fully carbon fiber Mini Marcos shell weighs just 7.25kg.
All Metros are A+ as is your housing but I think yours is SPi or MPi as it has a crankshaft position sensor and I don't belive these were ever fitted to Metros. If your running injection you'll need a housing with the sensor

There is an easier way to remove the bearing, find a socket that is as close as possible to the internal size of the bearing, then pack the bearing full of grease, hold the socket over the bearing and hammer it in, the pressure from the grease build up will force the bearing out, done it loads of times so i know it works.
