Insurance
With the clubman running again I was thinking of changing my insurance to be able to drive it and cause it's a nicer car than the Micra
I enquired about this before and she started going on about a MOT cert because it was an old car. Has anyone had problems with this before and how did you get around it? I'm with axa and the mini is a 77 clubman that Steven rebuilt last year.

Re: Insurance
yea i got a really nice quote these last 2 years with first ireland for my '80 clubbie.
Signature still awaiting top-coat and lacquer....
Re: Insurance
I was one to First Ireland about a month ago, 600ish for the mini and the bmw. I'm a good 6 months into my 2nd year with aga now so it's not worth cancelling to go with a different crowd. For the moment the mini will be the only car I have that can drive as well.

Re: Insurance
i had to get one done before. I think any garage that has a TAN number (i think thats what its called) should be able to do this for you. Just get the insurance company to send out the formsJozi wrote:I think Steven NCT'ed it, I'll have to check tomorrow.

Re: Insurance
You're a tad older than Jozi, and they aren't your sole daily drivers.
Re: Insurance
It's the daily driver bit that is the reason they want it. I'm not sure who steven had it insured with but he never had a problem with it. I'll call them this week and see what they have to say.
I'm not that young either TMG

Re: Insurance
Try telling that to the insurance companies.
Re: Insurance
They've never been to bad tbh, just under 600 on the BMW, not bad for 2nd year insurance in my own name and fully comp, helps being over 25 I guess. This report thing was the first inconvenience they caused me

Re: Insurance
A lot of the insurance companies used to look for an Engineers Report for cars more than 10 years old before the NCT came along. The form used to say you could get a Report from the Main Dealer for that make of car. I wonder did anyone ever ask them where they could find a British Leyland dealer in the 90's?
Re: Insurance
I'm with Axa, and moved from a Micra to a 73 auto, no engineers report mentioned, they just bumped the premium up by €40. Few months later I moved it back to the micra to do a rebuild on the mini, and they tried to bump it up again ! Looks like they don't ask for the engineers report if your already with them, or perhaps I've just been lucky.
Re: Insurance
Called them there, 30mins later and being forwarded from the lady who couldnt find the car on their system to a lady in the Cavan branch and still no further of.
She had some spiel about it being a 77 that it needs an engineers cert before they can cover me on the car. So much fun this car!

Re: Insurance
My renewal is on saturday, AXA quoted €640 Fully comp on a 1380 Mini Cooper. 23 ,Full License, 4 Years NCB altho this is under their student policy and im with them 2 years. Not too bad IMO, I think Ill go with it Im too busy to go through the circus act of phoning around just to save e50.
