Insurance Help
Well lads , done a serachon this to see was it up already but couldn't find what I'm looking for
Basically what I want to know is what are the requirements for getting insured on a mini.
Its a 1971 Clubman , I'm 19 and will have a full licence soon , don't have a car insured undr my own name though.
Would it be possible for me to get insured on the mini for the year.
Reason is I want to be able to bring it to shows this year but can't do it without insurance obviously though.
I'm worried my age is going to catch me out or else the fact I don't have another insurance policy.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Aidan

Re: Insurance Help
I'd say that you would find it hard to get a policy on a car over 15 years old when you are 19, most if not all classic policies require you to have another vehicle insured in your name.
I don't know if you can be a named driver under the age of 25 on a classic policy though.

Re: Insurance Help
Conditions of my own policy:
Insurance can only be provided for drivers over the age of 25.
The policy holder must have comprehensive insurance on their main vehicle.
Looks like you might be out of sorts there OP.

Re: Insurance Help
I contacted Quinn direct and they told me
===============
I would like to advise unfortunately, we do not provide quotations on vehicles over 20 years old.
If there are any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
===============
As I have quite a number of policies with them (house, cars, health, travel, etc) so basically the upshot is I’m not in a position to move insurers at the moment.
So, is there anyone out there who will insure just a classic?

Re: Insurance Help
Interesting stuff, but can you use the no claims from your main car for a different, 2nd, policy? For a 93 cooper it's ranging from 249 to 950, with the only difference being the NCB.

I'm with First Ireland, when i sarted my policy last year i ahd 4 years no claims from my main policy. I just called Brophys. on a 74 cooper TPF&T with a 1000 mile a year limit, €380. It sounds good

Re: Insurance Help
Just be aware that if you are doing the MTM, the 1000 mile limit may be an issue! I have a 4000 mile limit. It cost me €20 more to get from 1000 to 4000. Ill never do that many, but just in case!Mossess wrote:I just called Brophys. on a 74 cooper TPF&T with a 1000 mile a year limit, €380. It sounds good
