Insurance for me wheels

Post by stephenlovesminis »

Hi all, Just a quick email bout insurance. Puttin me mini back on the road for the next few months at least but insurance is a problem. Have everyday car ( 1.3 Toyota corrolla ) and I am 32 ( driving 9 years on a full ) but went to insure me mini and was quoted two grand by a snotty dublin jackeen at AXA.

Had a previous policy with Hibernian for 50 euro a month ( for the mini ) but that was not technically right as they put down 4 years no claims. You cannot have 2 no claims on two seperate policies which I subsequently found out. So I was drivin round with invalid insurance for one year.

Even with my age and driving experience the quotes I am receiving are ranging from 700 - 1500 euro. Can this be right?

How old is the car?
axa and carole nash run classic car policies good value.
Axa also do second car policies. I got a good quote for blackse7en in Drogheda with Axa but when he went to get it in Dublin they wanted a grand more, he came to Drogheda and got the low price even though the two people were working off the same computer system.

I had a similar problem last year, I tried AXA in Mullingar, but couldn't get anything near what Billy was getting price wise, turned out the policy was no good to me anyway as they won't insure diabetics and they specifically state that the car can not be used to drive to and from work. :-(

TMG,

Try a different AXA office. As the classic car policy is not their main business, most of the staff aren't clued up to it. When I lived in Galway, every staff member had a different interpretation of the policy.

I called Mallow (not a million miles from Mitchelstown, hint, hint) and they are excellent.

insurance for me wheels

Hi all,

Me mini is a 1994 1275 cc so I guess the engine size is pushing it up. Its not eligible for a classic policy and even with a limited miles policy it is still coming in between 800 - 1200 euro. Any advice :( :(

Unfortunately the only way to lower the cost of insurance is to either get a more insurer friendly Mini, a 998cc, or move to a more insurance friendly area, somewhere like Tory Island !!.

Other than that keep paying the high premium and increase your NCB, this in turn brings down the costs.

i got a quote from hibernian last week for a 2000 sport for 450euro and they said i was allowed my 5 years no claimes even though i already have a fiesta with fbd with my 5 years they said just get a letter from fbd as prove of no claims .so im also going to type a note to state that i informed them of my other policy and get them to stamp n date it when paying my policy so they have to honour the policy if anything happened!
MY BRAIN HURTS !
