Re: what to do
go to the gardai first and tell them the car has been off the road and you are now looking to put it back on the road and tax it, they will fill out a form with you and stamp it, you then bring this to the taxation office and tell them the car has been off the road and give them the stamped form from the gardai, they should then tax it from this date on,

Re: what to do about car being off road
If the car is registered in your name, all you need to do is go to your local garda station and get a motor tax renewal form (RF100A). Fill it out and get the garda to stamp it and go to your local tax office to get it processed and they'll give you a disc there and then.
