10"wheels and disk brakes

Post by Dan »

hi all quick question . i like the look of 10" wheels on my mini but i have been told that they wont fit wit standard disk brakes . what are my options here? For instance if i got deep dish 10 by 6 wheels would the deep dish and some spacers make up the difference?

What are the 7.5 ones like? I've the original breaks on the 1275, and need a hell of a lot better breaks on it!

or you could go the fiesta caliper brake conversion way....
thats exactly what i done, got some mkll fiesta calipers for bout 20 quid, had metro drive flanges, and ordered pair of 7.9inch discs from MRA minis for about 50 quid, little bit of modding and job done, works like a treat 8)

thats a good idea lads,do the fiesta conversion brakes have good stopping power?i suppose the 7.9 disk would have more stopping power than the 7.5 mini cooper s ones

none so far to be honest... :D
there a good job and it was actually a very simple and effective conversion to do ...

i have never driven a car with the cooper s setup so i cant say whether its better or not, they are alot better than the standard mini brakes however.

tip: to avoid having to buy special brake pipes/banjos i drilled a hole in the center back of the fiesta caliper (same position as on original mini calipers) and threaded it to fit the original brake pipes.. and obviously sealed up the existing feed hole..

if you are going to do it this way make sure to check there is enough of a wall to thread for safety reasons ... ( i think if i remember correctly i measured mine around 14mm)

theres a guy selling rebuilt mk2 fiesta calipers on ebay <--- would save you hassle sourcing some and rebuilding them yourself.. then you need metro drive flanges <----- can still be got second hand or brand new/restored from the likes of minispares etc.
7.9 inch discs can be got from MRA minis on request (they are just 8.4 discs turned down to 7.9 from what im aware) or check your local motor factor for prices on 8.4 discs and get them turned down yourself.

then follow this video which i found very helpfull  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fbBWdSDT7E

I just bought myseld a set of 8.4 disks and got them turned down. I got them done with Murfit Clutch and brake in Finglas. Think it was about 10 or 15 euro a disk. Let me know if you want it done i'm good mates with the sales rep. (They also sell disks very cheap if you dont have a set)
