Having never seen a 1375cc A-series number I couldn't tell you what to look for, but if you post the first 6 letters/numbers of the engine number, someone might be able to help.
What other parts are there on the car to tell you that it's a gt ?

I know the car you're talking about.
It has a Minisport 1380 engine and it's a Rover Mini Checkmate as far as I remember.
The seller must be a little mixed up....
went to see it last nite, your right its a checkmate, or what little is left of it, alot of origional parts are gone, he didnt really know much bout minis or the engine, previous owners etc. its has potential but is very very rough, i dont know how it has a new NCT, it had petrol flying out of carb, the head gasket was gone, thats only from a quick look, and body was in a bit of a sorry state.
it would be a nice project car but too expensive for myself, as engine needs to be stripped and rebuilt and the body needs alot of welding a respray and prob new subframe at the back.
