Buyer beware

Post by Billy »

In advance of the "recognise the part" competition at this weekend's camping weekend, can anyone spot any part of this car which dates from 1968?

I've got pics of this car somewhere, it was at a car show in the curragh this year. There's nothing on this car from a 1968, it also had the original uk reg etched into the glass on both sides, think it was a C reg.

reporting this will not amount to anything (well not for me in the past) which is a pity really.
ihave reported several scams on donedeal and all i've ever gotten back from them is if i have a problem to contact my local gardaí.

the only way to get the add taken off is buy reporting to them that the telephone number is not legit.
it's in the terems and cndition that a legit phone number has to be provided.

but of course i'm saying to do that

i'm sure the revenue would have a view on this sort of thing as well.

*but* - what are we doing here?

protecting the "brand"??
preventing punters getting ripped off?
slightly jealous that someone may be "getting away" with something?

all of the above?

If the car was being sold though IMOC then i think we should point out our concerns, if only to protect the reputation of the club and its members. Otherwise, i think we would do well to leave it alone; sure, comment all you want here (as long as its not defamatory). But lets not adopt a policing role.

If highlighting its faults here helps prevent an unsuspecting member getting caught out, then there is merit in bringing such cars to people's attention.

true.. i hadn't seen it from that view: On the other hand, as someone pointed out, little enough happens when the add is "reported". there is no place on the add to place your doubts or questions, unlike say on Advertrs.ie. Commenting it here would work well!

The reg that is etched into the window is C549 NFY. Came back as an Austin Mini Mayfair on Cartell.ie.

Yeah I saw it at the show its got a fair bit of rot so I wouldn't pay half the money asked if the reg was correct but I wouldn't touch the car and as far as I know if you reshell a car in the uk legally your meant to reregister the car as a kit car. but I could be corrected on that.

You can only reshell a car in the UK (and keep the original reg. no.) by using a new bodyshell. The shell must be supplied by a recognised manufacturer such as BMH and must come with a receipt.
If you use a 2nd-hand shell you will have to use the reg no. of the replacement shell or be issued with a Q-plate.
It is not legal to reshell a car in Ireland (even using a brand new shell).
Having said that, I had a '78 mini before and I think the only original bit of bodywork was the roof !!!

I thought because you lose the chassis no. when you switch shells thats why you got the q plate
