Tyres

Post by gareth-n »

NCT due today, and they are going to tell me I need all 4 new rubbers.
Just looking to put cheapest on (its the gf's). Most places are saying around 84 per Falcon, but i found these for €47.
Am i missing something?!! Have i picked the wrong type or something stupid? Anyone experience with these tyres?

Falken
ZIEX ZE-912 165/60 R12 71T

eiretyres.com

I was also looking at quotes for Yokos for my own mini but apparently the Irish supplier is out of biz.... any suggestions where to look?

Thanks, Gar

If you know someone that can fit em go on to camskill.co.uk. I get all my tyres there and there very reasonable even if you pay someone to fit them for you.

Yeah, Camskill or Eiretyres are the way to go. I have bought tyres from both and never had a problem with delivery.
I wouldn't pay any more than €10 per tyre to have them fitted, so ask around.

By the way, despite the name, Eiretyres are in Germany so they normally take a day or two longer than Camskill (UK) to arrive.

Just back from NCT...... my god the list was tiny!! Even the tester said WTF when the the print came out!!
Deansgrange centre is 1,000,000 times better than Ballymun.

Anyway he said 3 tyres were fine!? THEY'RE NOT!!! Either way I'll be looking for 2 Falkens and 4 Yoko's or similar standard for my own now.
mgb1978 wrote:By the way, despite the name, Eiretyres
So deceiving! Ill check out camskill.co.uk. Wow, €39 for the same Falcons... They dont have the A539's though. Eire do :-(

I have a dude around the corner that could fit them, no idea what he'd charge me though. But I'm probably looking at 50 a corner for the falkens and 90 for the Yokos (incl fitting).

Can anyone explain why the Falkens are so cheap online? The ZE-912's will be fine?

Thanks all for your guidance

I got 4 Yokos from Huddersfield Mini, £184 for the tyres but delivery is £42. Had them in 2 days.

The main reason the Falkens are cheaper online is that hardly any tyre depots carry this size in this country and have to order them in specially.
The Falkens aren't as soft a compound as the Yokos ( and don't have as sporty a tread pattern).
If your'e not going rally driving the Falkens are absolutely fine and should wear a lot slower than the Yokos too.
By the way, Eire tyres prices include delivery (Camskill's don't), so if you are only getting 2 or 3 tyres Eire can be a little cheaper.

Yokohama tyres are just about the best tyres you can get for a mini these days,

i recently got 4 Yoko A032r 165/70 r10 Aquatusk tyres delivered from Camskill for €238 all in :D

Wow, prices for Yokos really seem to vary.

Huddersfield Mini - Spot on Marcos £184 - A539's €270 incl Del
Eiretyres - A539's €323 incl Del
Camskills - no answer on the phone all day
lakelands - dead website and awaiting mail reply

Just to point out, the falkens are for the missus' car...... the Yokos for mine..... I try rally against beamers & mercs up bus lanes whenever possible if that justifies the Yokos

Needless to say ill be heading to Huddersfields at €270. Basically, ordering in Yokos online and paying to get them fitted is cheaper than the quotes I've gotten for supplied Falkens to be fitted! IRISH MADNESS!!!

I got new tyres recently but none of my local tyre centres would fit them for me. They would only fit tyres that they sold. I fitted them myself with a few levers - dead easy 8)

yeah, a lot of mainstream tyre fitters are like that these days, i keep getting the line "if we didn't sell them to you then we're not insured to fit them", what a load of bull!!
just find a backstreet tyre fitter and he'll probably do it better and cheaper for you :D

Same problem here for most places i called. The guys around the corner (Chaukleys in Ranelagh) will probably stick em on for me no problem.

Im starting to think of that. The packages are less than 100 quid extra, nuts! My wheels are in bad condition anyway, they'd need to be blasted before putting on new rubber so this could very well be my plan now.
£298 for these with A539's

Are these decent quality rims or just muck?

lol.... its been a long and funny few weeks man. Got the engine in the day before the test. All was sweet except for the ECU which is still going a bit mad, just kept cutting out. I had it out in McNamaras and they did a temp fix on remapping. Got me to the NCT (with many breakdowns in traffic) and only failed on - Wing mirror, passenger seat belt, insecure rear seat, and the horn!! LOL. Ill get some photos up shortly, got some more work to do on it still.
