Hi all
Just bought a set of Dunlop D1's which I am going to restore.
I started tonight and shot blast all the paint off, going for the original look so they will be black in between the spokes
My question is what type of paint should I use, I was thinking spray can for handyness but I do have a proper spray gun as well thinking the spay can paint may not last...
Thanks for all the help in advance
Regards

Re: Paint for Dunlop D1's
with the proper preparation the can stuff can last.
give the metal a light sanding, spray it with a primer (2 or 3 light layers)
Then give it 3 or 4 light layers of the black canned stuff and lightly sand between each coat.
You could lacquer them after that with a few coats and sand them after with some 2000grit
I sprayed my mates wheels for him 2 years ago and they're still looking top notch.

Re: Paint for Dunlop D1's
after shot blasting them you'll probably need to use Etch primer first to bring back a good base,
standard rattle cans can produce a good finish, i used an acrylic on a set of wheels i did before, they got some real abuse but lasted well

Thanks guys for all the help, will be a week or so before I start painting but will get all the stuff gathered up!
I might go and the rim done in a lathe so that all the small marks will be removed
Elbow grease, Tired a rim with a bit of steel wool and some autogleem metal polish for a few minutes a it was looking well,The Marcos Graveyard wrote:how are you going to repolish the spokes and the rim ?
