The fuse is burning out for a reason, you need to check your instalation again, something is not right. Woody is the man to answer this tbh.

is it the fuse in the minis fuse box that goes or the one that came with the radio ,check the rating of both because if the minis own fuse is a smaller rating than the radio and it has other equipment being fed off it,then your overloading the minis fuse,it sounds like load cos if it were a short circuit it would blow straight away but the fact that it takes a minute suggests overload, you may need to look a getting a different supply if its a high powered radio cos cars with big ice usually have uprated altenators and an uprated battery or two,its all down to load

rover put in that size fuse for a reason, the cable feeding that fuse may be only rated for the amount that the original fuse was and you could be running the risk of overhaeting the cable with bad bad juju to follow unless a smaller fuse was fitted before

The fuse that came with the stereo, which I presume is new, would have been designed by the manufacturer with as high a rating as they believed necessary to protect the equipment, exceeding this will not only put your stereo at risk it will probably invalidate your warranty.

it was the original fuse on the minis wiring that was changed not the stereos.. would that still have the same effect over heating the wire or blowing up the stereo??

Which fuse are you taking the feed from ? What size was it and what size have you replaced it with, you may have now "over fused" more than just the radio !!

The fuses that are standard in the car are rated for the size of cable in the car and should not replaced by larger fuses. The principle of the fuse is that if overloaded it will melt befor the cable, enlarging the fuse will allow the cable to melt before the fuse.FIRE!!. If your running some nice ICE look at feeding it directly from the battery with large cables and appropeate fuses.
