Re: Wolseley Hornet Restoration Project
Got a strange voicemail from Murphy this evening. No voice, just noise. I rang him back and asked him if he had been looking for me. He asked if I had got his voicemail. I said all I got was the sound of an engine running in the background. "That was the Hornet running on twin carbs!!!!" sez Johnny.
Another small step forward though even if it was ready, it wouldn't be stirring out of the shed for a while with this weather.

Re: Wolseley Hornet Restoration Project
Last week, the Hornet went back to Leonard O'Sullivan, the panelbeater who had to re-do the original panelbeater's donkey work, for its final polish. Murph and I went to collect it from him this afternoon. Very happy with the results.
We brought it back to Murph's garage to give it a test run but it refused to start despite many close attempts. Murph was reaching for his lighter but common sense prevailed and he agreed to sleep on it (the problem, not his lighter).
Once mechanicals are tested and last few external bits are attached, I'll be bringing it home to fit carpet, seats, and hood.
Maybe, just maybe, it will be ready for the MTM.

Now don't be lazy and spray the slam panel black at the back of the grill when you get it home.Glad to see it is nearly ready. You were nowhere near as long at it as TMG was with the Marcos.

I don't know Tony, that's a tough rise out of the car park at Mizen Head, it mightn't make it up it.

Re: Wolseley Hornet Restoration Project
I would be thinking it would not make it as far as the car park (better keep this on topic or Billy the eminently respected mod might ban us all )

Re: Wolseley Hornet Restoration Project
I drove it today!! Mind you, it wouldn't have gotten up the hill at Mizen as it was popping through one of the carbs. Murph and I drove it back to his garage, much twiddling later, Alan, Murph's apprentice spotted a split in the fuel line right above the exhaust....... We reckon enough fuel was getting through to one carb but not enough to the other hence the popping.
At that point I walked away and Murph is having a braided fuel pipe made up.
I'll see how it looks on Monday.

Not this year anyway unless you're trying to tell me something, Keith. You can't put a roofbox on a convertible!
It may have a 1275 for IMM2011 in Switzerland next year.

Re: Wolseley Hornet Restoration Project
Brought the Hornet in to Mick Lillis yesterday to finally sort out the tuning and brought it home last night. It's going great and today's good weather meant it got two good spins into Fermoy. Still need to sort the hood fixings and the carpet but at least it's driveable.

Niall,
Will take some later. Looks drizzly out there. Not ideal when there's no hood.

If the weather picks up (it's been showery all day), I might bring it to the Limerick Grand Prix in the morning. Several of the pre-55 racers at this year's Classic Car Live will be attending.
