Any idea whats wrong with my mini?

Post by minigra »

To all you mechanical minded guys!, just wondering if you would have any idea whats up with my mini.... here's what happened, drove mini yesterday all was well was parked up in town for about an hour went back and it wouldn't start, thought it was just cold so tried a few more times she started, drove fine, but same thing happened after I stopped next time and I needed a push to get going ( lucky the car doesn't weigh much as it was up a hill) anyway then this awful noise started, all I can describe it as a load of small stones going around in a drum!!!! Any suggestions as to what this might be would it be something with the starter? and will it cost me a fortune???? by the way its a 1982 mini van...
Cheers Suz

Did it make the noise when it started and was running, or just whe u were turning it over trying to start it. If it was making the noise when it was running sounds like alternator, links to not starting as well as it has to make a curcuit through it. If it was makin noise just when ur turning it over starter is gone

However, it has to be a component that spins, eg waterpump, bottem pully, so take a good big poky screw driver and rock and lever these parts, watch for movement,
