Welcome to the Irish Mini Owners Club forum. Celebrating 30 years of the Irish Mini Owners Club, 60 years of the Mini, 50 years of the Clubman and 20 years of our flagship event MTM
just finished my dream of 15 years or so, a vtec mini, well nearly finished, still some loose ends to tie up and get it taxed. heres a wee vid and pic.
What Minis have you?: 1996 BRG mayfair 1275 auto-lyin up now 1990 1l city-daily driver 1993 cooper spi-completly stripped and upside down! the long term project(advantage) courtesy of mr skelly!! rotten shell-found a floor repair panel in the boot tho!
dont like the look of extended fronts so kept it normal, engine and frame are gonna have to come out to change the oil filter as a result but small price to pay imo. its a b16a1 out of a crx, some people say it puts out 160 bhp but i think its 150 which is plenty for what i'm after.

aye quite a bit of work involved but any1 with a technical head could do it, i'm no engineer and have never done anything like this before but the 16v mini forum is such a help. i'd highly recomend the conversion if you enjoy your tinkering. i done it on the cheap (about £1000) but some boys go to town with them.

So , you are better off going up north and buying a Vtec then just scrapping it down here? As fun as it sounds, removing the engine to do a oil change, or probably anything else is a bit too much work for me
a rough breakdown:
engine, box,ecu and loom etc -£300
driveshafts (incuclding cutting, sleeving and welding)- £200
gear selector mechanism-£20
injection fuel tank-£40
civic fuel pump-£30
speedo, clutch cable, speedo cable-£100
standard front subframe and steel to make frame-£50
metro 4 pots-£100
and about £200 on hamerite, pipes, tubes, wires, cutting/grinding discs,nuts/bolts, straight thru exhaust 2"
i'm sure i've forgot things but thats the gutz of it.

Well done on getting it done on such a tight budget, did you make up the driveshafts yourself or get a firm to make them and did you get them balanced.Just want to know as I am starting by own 16v conversion soon.
heres the instructions i brought to the machine shop, got it from 16v mini forum i think, along with 2 mini and 2 honda shafts and required lengths. they are not balanced but the sleeves were turned down to be perfectly round and the sleeves themselves keep the whole shaft dead straight.
