Re: classic insurance ?????
As far as I am aware ,for all Classic Insurance Policy's you need to be over 25 years of age, have a full licence and have another car fully insured with a policy in your own name.

Re: classic insurance ?????
some insurance companies will kick in their "classic" policy to cars under 30 years.. pays to shop around. I've not heard of one that will apply it to a driver under 25 years etc.

Re: classic insurance ?????
you can have named drivers on a classic policy but they 2 need to have a main policy in their own name and they must be of a certain age.guyfo wrote:wat bout if i got my dad to hav the car in his name? Re: classic insurance ?????
Any difference insurance or tax wise for "classics" then ? I know vintage has classic insurance and tax, no NCT etc........but do "classics" (over 21) receive any benefits ?oel159 wrote:Thirty years is vintage, classic is vehicles over twenty-one years.clubmankev wrote:Thirty years from date of first registration.
And I said, Officer, I didn't want to be drunk in public...I wanna be drunk in the bar. Now last time I checked it was still legal to be drunk in the bar. They threw me into public...arrest them!

Re: classic insurance ?????
insurance *may* vary depending on the company you are talking to. remember that each insurance "company" buys the actual cover from an underwriter, then they parcel it up, asses your risk and charge accordingly.
there is no such thing as "classic insurance", its just a marketing scheme to attract a particular type of customer. there's no legal reason why 17 year old drivers cant have "classic" insurance: likewise no reason why it cant be applied to a 3 year old Audi RS4. its just at the discretion of the insurance company.
road tax rates on the other hand are defined by legislation, enshrined in law and enforced by statute. a vehicle has to be 30 years or more to avail of veteran & vintage rate of €48 per year.
take a look at this https://www.motortax.ie/OMT/pdf/motorta ... 009_en.pdf and you will see that there are other classes of vehicles, some of which are totally exempt of road tax. for instance:

there is a growing feeling that the minister might lock off the "veteran & vintage" classification at "prior to 1/1/80"(g) vehicles which are used exclusively for underwater search and recovery purposes,

Re: classic insurance ?????
Try First Ireland. I have my mayfair with them for €260 for the year. Ive also just added the clubman and it will be working out at about an extra €150 for the year. So I will have 2 cars insured with them for €400. My main car is €250, so three cars insurance for under €700!
