Re: 1988 Mini Designer

Seen this one in the flesh myself. Didnt ask a price though cause I really didnt care.......they couldnt pay me to take it away. Its not a Mary Quant and it has popped up for sale a few times. Its been reshelled ( although quite badly )

And I said, Officer, I didn't want to be drunk in public...I wanna be drunk in the bar. Now last time I checked it was still legal to be drunk in the bar. They threw me into public...arrest them!

There was never a model called the Mary Quant. It was actually called Designer and was badged as such.

It would be interesting to check the MOTs on line as the mileage would be recorded on them.

It was famous for her name more than anything though. It should have been called a Mary Quant, like the Paul Smith that followed suit.

Kenneth,

If you took the time to read TMG's post earlier http://www.minidesigner.co.uk/guide.htm, it was a Mini Designer!

i think we are all decided on "its less than it could be..." another thing worth mentioning is that with *very* low mileage cars, even "previously owned" as this one certainly is, our Revenue section might like to see vat being payed on it: ie, they classify the car as "new".. (dont ask!)

I think at this stage Stan's original query about this Mini has been well and truly answered by those who have personally viewed the car and those who have reviewed Stan's very clear photos of the bodywork, underneath, exhaust, engine bay etc. At this point, let's close this topic and move on.

The great benefit of this forum is that a young member (no disrepect, Stan) looked for opinions on the car and was given plenty of feedback based on other members' experience and knowledge of Minis. When I bought my Cooper 20 years ago, I didn't realise it was full of filler and newspaper with a knackered engine. To me it looked great and I had to have it. Having some decent advice back then would have saved me a lot of money when it came to haggling etc.

You live and learn,

I think the low milage limit with revenue is 3000mls, below which you pay the VRT of a new car and VAT on top no matter how old the car is.
