The metro engine will be an a+ engine so 80s on in age but , the metro subframe is different and wont go near a mini shell

You need to change the profile of the needle to "tweek" it.

The mixture adjustment is on the side of the carb.

1275 A+ metro engines range from low compression metro vans to MG Metro Turbos with many inbetween. The first part of the engine number gives you the spec.

Just as a matter of interest, where did you get it dyno tested? What sort of cost is involved?

The mixture screw is number 7 in the photo.

This is used to adjust the mixture at idle, the needle profile then determines the mixture further up the rev range.

thats not coming through as an engine number... 12H makes it a 1275, but after that,... can you verify that number?

id doesn't seem to be a mini engine, it might be a metro unit, or an allegro/maestro/other BL car. the "12H" makes it a 1275 transverse, prior to 1990, but you already figured that out!
see: http://members.home.nl/mmarx/mini/metronmbrs.htm

most likely so far is this: 12HD09 9.75 : 1 1989 1.3 Metro Saloon

nice one thanks for all the help!! just need to figure out the needle profile now haha!! he thought the needle could do with being smaller or the carb being the original to sort the performance out!!

The needle is tapered, It's the shape of it that alters the setting not the size of it.

There is a 3 letter code on the needle, which one are you running ?

Engine No 12HD09,
I Found a listing of it as Mini 84-86 ,Austin 1.3L and 1.3 HLE.
To the best of my Knowlodge ther was no 1275 Mini 84-86 and I presume the Austin is referance to the Metro 1.3L and 1.3 HLE.
Dizzy number should be 42626

had a go off the carb the last day to try sort the mixture but when i did i noticed the choke had been adjusted to run all the time so i slackened it off and tweaked the screws a bit to get the revs up but the car kept hunting and cutting out!! it also got 11.5% Co2 in the nct so failed badly!! i wqs told to get a new needle and jet assembly so what profile needle would be best1!! must check the needle i have now!! its a 1275 metro im pretty sure its got a hif38 carb!!
thanks

is there a metal strip screwed to the carb body someplace with letters & numbers on it? usually three letters and four numbers. what does it say?

no matter *what* needle is fitted, it should be possible to get it to idle cleanly.

at bottom left hand side of the carb, as seen from the front of the engine, there is the recessed idle mixture adjustment screw. with the engine warmed up, timing correclty set and the choke fully in, turn the screw to get the smoothest idle.

i have an MG metro engine in my mini clubman, and the carb is HIF44.

i got 11.53% vol and 2210 ppm!!! not good
