Anyone know this motor.
Ive been keeping my eye out for a mini the last few weeks and am lking this one was wondering does anyone know the car etc havent contacted the seller yet as i wont get a chance to look at it till prob next weekend http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1028304
one more thing is insurance its crazy who are the younger lads insured with ? Im 24 3 years no claims but only as a named driver I had a proper no claims discount before that but when i go named driver that s no use yeah I only have my full licence a year and a half though....... but for me and the girlfriend on my 06 vectra with quinn fully comp i pay 670 at the mo I asked quinn to quote me yesterday on this motor and they came up with 1100 third party ? are they crazy thats half the value of the car so i tried 123 and insure.ie but they were 900 odd i was hoping for insurance to be in around the 500 mark as its only gonna be a little weekend fun car and to socialise go on runs etc and join the mini club .
ps anyone know of any half decent minis goin for around the 2k mark ? must be running and prefferably nctd with not too much to try sort out for me as i havent much mechanical experience but with the oul haynes manual and a few spanners i do enjoy trying the handy stuff .

Re: Anyone know this motor.
Well first of all, it's not a Cooper. Probably a Sprite judging by the seats. By the reg, it's probably an import.
Check http://www.mywheels.ie for its reg.

Re: Anyone know this motor.
jimbo i dont know that car but if its your first mini you are buying i *strongly* suggest you bring along someone along that knows minis to see the car with you.
mechanical issues will soon be apparent: knocking sounds, grating and rumbling, smoke etc. rust is a much harder thing to spot, and potentially harder and more expensive to fix.
this advice of course applies to all cars, not just minis¬! probably applies to houses and boats and other stuff too!
as to insurance, just keep phoning or 'netting around. the deals seem to change weekly. there does seem to be an overall increase in premiums though.. i found it cheaper when i included my partner on the policy.
and yea, like Billy says, make sure the insurance know its not a cooper. no need to give them an excuse to raise the premium on you.

Hi Jimbo
Might be a bit out of your price range but I was thinking of selling my mini for around €2,800 just thought I'd throw it in there!! hav'nt advertised it yet as I was waiting til I got another first, more photos and spec in the 'my mini' section on the site,I don't have the bodykit/arches anymore! I'm 28 and my insurance is €500 with quinn full licience, 5 yrs no claims but as Keith said the premiums seem to be going up not sure i'd get that quote if I joined today. best of luck with your mini search dude

Re: Anyone know this motor.
Since you already have the Vectra and you are looking for a weekend runabout, why not try the Classic route. Get a pre 1989 mini and get the Classic Insurance on it (Approx €300+ AXA). With AXA I think you have to be 25, but I don't know of age restrictions with other companies.
