Driving to school

Post by StanO'Toole »

I'm in my final year of school this year so I have the leaving next summer. I was in school there on Monday just for a half hour to get timetables and that. We have a new principal that rekonds he can stop all students/pupils (even those with full liences) from driving into school! I laughed in his face and gave him abuse and now because of that I just found out I am getting suspended on Friday which is my first proper day back for lashing out?

I don't know if there is anyone on the forum that is a teacher or know anything about this sort of thing but can a school do this?

My point that I am trying to make is that I have been waiting for 6, 7 odd years to start driving and I then go out and buy a car, maintain it, NCT it, insure it, tax it and go through the hassle to get a drivers lience and I would not even ask how much all that came to money wise and now someone is telling me I'm not aloud drive it to the place I spend most of the year? Let me know what you think and if he doesn't back down I'l let you know all the news papers and radio stations the subject will be in

hi Stan, long time since i was at school but i know the principal has the right to make these decisions its the same here students are not allowed drive/park in school carpark they must park outside schools grounds.
Flat out.... like a lizard drinking.

i done my leaving 2 years ago, and i drove into school in my last year. the principal wouldn't let us park inside, which is fair enough as the carpark was full as it is. after a month or so, he then told us he wanted are car keys when we went in and would get them back at the end of the day. i did the same laughed in his face and walked away. when i told me parents they did the same, as its none of there buisness how we get to school, there only responsible for us when we are in school, outside the school grounds, frog em....

With the way you drive Glennon I can't blame them for trying to take your keys  I joke. You see the thing is they don't want us driving in what so ever!

You this is the last thing I want is this kind of crap as after all it is my leaving cert year and at the begining of last year I got dred locks and got suspended for four weeks and I'm not backing down on this but I can't afford for tat to happen again!

drive to school, park outside school property, dont mess about with or in the car until you are going home, infact dont even go near the car till you are going home and then just go!,
then their is nothing he can say or do to you as the car doesn't come on school grounds and is just a conveyance to and from school and as such it is not under any of his remit!

Yea unfortunately most schools have that rule, when I got my mini, I wasnt allowed to park inside school grounds and thats five years ago now. But it was no big deal just parked in the housing estate opposite and chances are it would have been vandalised if parked in the school carpark

Macker, I'm in Saint Brendans accross the way from Wood Brook golf course there and there is not really anyway to park the cars except for the house accrooss the road but two of the lads have been clamped by the house who owns the entrance so the you think the path beside the bus stop is school property?

I wouldnt park it in the school, as sombody mentioned, it will be vandalised.
As regards the clamping, unless they ahave signs up, and own the property outside their house(which they do not the council do), they cannot clamp you, if they do first politley ask them to remove it, if the refuse, just get a big frog off angle grinder and grind it off in front of them. Then bill them for the angle grinder, and any damage to the car.

Rules are there for a reason and I understand that and I do see him as an authority firgure but he does not have the authority to tell me (or anyone for that fact) that we can not park in grounds that have nothing to do with him!

Tut, Tut, Tony. I could have the revenue protection squad on you  !!! every fare counts in these recessionary times. Joking aside, I have sympathy with your plight stan and hope you reach a favourable outcome but I fear your little (understandable) outburst will hamper any chance of this. If you are going to be home friday maybe I could finally collect those locking hoops from you
