It might be worth asking the difference in price. If it works out much cheaper then it might be worth it. Engine swaps on a Mini are handy enough if you get a complete engine,box,carb.... Also get a full license ASAP.
FBD insured me when I was 18 for 1800, not cheap but was the cheapest I could find and was comprehensive. Im now with axa and they have different policies for young drivers, called student first and motor first, which are cheap but have no priviledges like breakdown cover, windscreen etc. Or you could get insured as a named driver on your mothers insurance although this may be a bit risky.
What Minis have you?: 1988 Mini Mayfair 998, 1971 Mini 1000, 2001 Transit Recovery Truck, 2001 fiat ducato camper, 2008 Kia cee’d, 1996 VW transporter T4, 1995 ford escort cabriolet.
My first insurance was only £648...... Well before the euro had arrived....
Now all these years later after making no claims and having a full licence for more than 10 years with no points i just paid over 3 grand for road risk........
But then that may be because it is a commercial traders policy..........
None Glennon I think the car will be ready in a couple of days so when it comes out I think I'l try and sell it to get a 1lt. I know its going to take even longer to start driving but there is nothing I can really do.
the best thing for you to do is, put the car in your mams name, insure it under her name and be a named driver.
i'm 20 and i'm still under my mams name since i was 17, my insurance only costs me €800 a year and i live in dublin 24!!
(my first years insurance when i was 17 was only €1200)
The gear box was being replaced but the engine has been back in it for a week or so now. Either way, if I was going to go the 1lt way I would just buy and 1lt and sell Stud on, but thanks for thinking ahead!
