Charleville Vintage Show - Sunday June 28th

Post by Billy »

Just a reminder that those in the Munster area who won't be attending the Donegal Mini show, are welcome to join us at the IMOC club stand this Sunday in Charleville. The club has had a presence in Charleville for the past few years and we're always made welcome. Entry is free for those who bring Minis and there are complimentary tea and sambos and a plaque for all.

The Charleville Show is very much a family day out so bring the kids along. There will be loads of activities going on during the day including Lawnmower Racing.

Contact Johnny Murphy at 087-9503913 for more details and where you can meet up beforehand.

It seems Tommy C is bringing half of Kerry along. Johnny Murphy has a posse coming from Cork.

Should be a good crowd.

Johnny Murphy has confirmed that the Minis are to meet on Sunday morning at the Corbett Court between Ballyhea and Charleville (where we had the grub after the Mallow Parade).

We're to assemble at 10.30am and drive into the field as one convoy.

If you're running late, call Johnny Murphy.

Apart from the weather, we had a great day at the Charleville Show yesterday. About 18 Minis assembled at the Corbett Court, just before the show entrance and we filed into our arranged site which had been minded since 8.30 that morning by Adrian Murphy. Once we got to our spot, there were already 5 Minis including Martin Murray's immaculate Moke and Dick Mason and Mike Maloney having driven their cars from Tralee that morning.

As the morning progressed, it was clear that a serious number of Minis were going to turn up and by late afternoon, Johnny counted 36 Minis within our club stand and there were others scattered around the field which never made it over to us. It was a great day for the club with 12 new members signing up including Clive Moynan with his '59 (Jack Daniels Trophy winner in Mondello) and Michael O'Leary with his gorgeous Mk1 Cooper S. The new members came from Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Clare, and Tipperary. Eugene and Bonny were glad of the gazebo during the showers. Dan Kelleher from Ovens near Ballincollig brought along his lovely yellow 1275GT. Fellow GT owner David Will from Swords stopped by on his way home from Kinsale.

Tom Heavey had his Irish Vintage Scene stand there and he thanked the club for making Mondello such a great success. The "official" Mini 50 photo taken at Mondello apparently looks spectacular and it will be published in IVS later this year.

The variety of vehicles on display was incredible and everyone was amazed at the range of vintage trucks. Considering how big this show was, there was no repetition of the madness at Durrow and all cars got out of the field easily
I didn't take my camera but I know Tommy C will post some photos in the coming days.

The next Southern Region event is the Classic Car Show & Sale at Corrin, Fermoy on Sunday July 12th.
