Re: Garage
No,unfortunately not it will be a play room for the kids, foose ball table bought for it already but in years to come I might get a corner of it.I did not see any point in wasting the space downstairs as it is only for car storage so I dropped the joists to give a bit of extra head room upstairs.Dave C would have to bend down but for us smaller lads its just about right.By the way did ye notice the new plates on the estate,I finally got around to paying the 50 euro.

Re: Garage
The garage was held up due to the first plasterer giving me the runaround but I,m happy to say that this morning the second plasterer arrived and is scudding the walls and should have it finished by the weekend, weather permitting.Once he has finished I can get the footpaths finished, wire it and get the floor in upstairs,I finished the concrete floor inside a couple of months ago.The estate,GT and MKII will have to stay outside for this week.

Re: Garage
Have finally done something about garage, better late than never.
Fine weather spurred me on.
Here are a few photos of progress.
All i have left to do now is to make two doors, hope that does not take another year by the way the weather is out there tonight.

Re: Garage
Nice one Tom, did it set you back much ?
Re: Garage
Wow that's a great idea. Looks like a very cost effective way to build a garage.
I got lucky with mine. One of the Family had a big old Turkey shed (24x12) which they didn't use any more. Cleared out 20 years of rubbish, layed a concrete floor with the help of a buddy of mine and put on new doors etc. Was done for about €900. Only pain is that it's 30 miles or so from my house!

Re: Garage
There are plenty of Chicken Sheds near me and since Cappoquin Chickens nearly closed down last year, I keep thinking if any would be available. I would imagine they would be ideal for Mini storage. Are they sealed in Mark, or do they have vents?

This shed was custom built buy my grandfather to hold the Turkeys. It's a dome shed, 24'x12'. Great size and ideal for holding 2 Mercs & 2 Minis with enough room to work on all 3. You could probably fit a 3rd Mini in there if you had to. I have another shed for parts store.
It doesn't so much have vents as holes I've patched most of them up. I couldn't justify shelling out €150/month to rent a tiny garage, so this seemed like the ideal solution. I've been in there for 14months now, and it needs a little more work, but still a great space!
(thats my gf's Mini just before the engine was removed for the rebuild)
Just need to build another one to house the other 2 Mercs :\

Re: Garage
Interesting. The chicken sheds around here are all timber-frame.
My brother had a timber shed installed last year. I think it was 16'x10' and set him back about 5-6k. The thing about timber though is that you have to varnish it every few years. He used 5 tins of yacht varnish at 50 Euros a tin.

Re: Garage
Had concrete in a while now forget what it cost as i used about a third of it repairing drive.
Timber for walls 4*2 treated + shiplap treated cost 630 euro.
Screws 60 euro.
Timber for roof 3 quarter ply + some more 4*2 130 euro.
Have not got price for felt or downpipes yet, expect around 250 euro.
All that is left to do is doors ,hope to make them in metal for security and cover them with timber to match rest of shed.
Did not paint it yet but got a 9 litre tin of fence life for 17 euro should cover it all.
Forgot rawl bolts to fix to ground 20 euro.
Petrol cap is top of aerosol tin, better than letting water in.

Re: Garage
Am soooooooooo jealous of yee guys that have garages!
I have a driveway and no room at the side of the house to even think about building a garage
My Mini resides in the driveway under a Monsoon cover while the Dolomite is lucky that its tucked up safely in my Fathers garage.
The Princess meanwhile doesn't do too badly nor does my wallet with its storage facility only costing €500 for 12 months with a very secure location, full access, electricity, dust/humidity free etc.

Re: Garage
Have to get it in put plastic cover over door tonight to keep rain from blowing in, was pitch black inside.
Have lectric in small shed at end of house should not be any trouble to run wire from one to other.
Have son working in electrical wholesaler, so will get some sockets and lights next week hopefully.
Might put window in later on also.
Was not sure about building it in timber because it would not last forever and would need maintenance.
But lads at work said it would not matter as it would probably outlast me.
