my first mini
hey,
some of ya might know me from the MTM that was my first real mini run that my brother let me drive his mini(and actually let me come)
steven got me a shell a while back that he was gonna build for me but after the weekend i just totally fell in love and couldnt wait to get my own one!!:P so steven made some calls for me and i got my first mini yesterday up the north!!:)
thats my baby... 1990 racing green with 1.3 metro engine. needs a bit of work but steven recons its a good solid shell and a super first car:D
me not having a clue, Steven helped me do a few bits today.
steven barely got his hands dirty and made me do everything saying its a learning process
so, we took the distributor out changed the condensor, the contact breaker and the rotor arm and he showed me how to set the contacts gap.
I changed the distributor cap and made sure the leads were put back on the same as before and i then changed the oil and the filter. its break time now:)
the car is backfiring, Steven recons the valve clearances/tappets are set wrong so were going to do them next.
oh and flush the water through the cooling system.
Fiona

Re: my first mini
After MTM, I think "The Undertaker" would be a good name for your new Mini. Congrats on your new purchase.

Re: my first mini
the ''rocket'' would be a good name for it too....
Re: my first mini
ok stevens after setting the tappet clearances, he says two of them were out a good bit the rest wasnt too bad...
he then did the timing which was way out and started the car.... straight away it sounded a whole lot better so steven took it for a spin and reckons the car is setup proper now and is a rocket and is way to fast for me
while he had the rocker cover of he noticed the roller rockers werent lining up with the valves properly and they were pretty dirty which he reckons was caused by the backfiring/timing causing exhaust residue in the cover....
pic.
is this normal/odd/wrong??
also i found a possible colour for my car at the mosney show yesterday...
green body, green arches and white roof.. what do you reckon??

Re: my first mini
If you take a pic of your car as it is now, you can change the colour of it with Photoshop and see what it will look like with the colours you want
Re: my first mini
Fiona send me the pics and I'll give it ago this evening. The Marcos Graveyard wrote:If you take a pic of your car as it is now, you can change the colour of it with Photoshop and see what it will look like with the colours you want

Re: my first mini
The rockers look right, there standard rockers not roller rockers.
That green is close to mine and I've seen it with a white roof and it doesn't look right, my roof is beige.

Re: my first mini
so, after a lot of messing with seized stuff steven and my dad and a bit of me got the front rubber spring cones changed.
the rubber had sunk that much, the car was only sitting a few centimeters away from the tires.
heres the old rubber beside the new one:
because the new rubbers havent bedded in yet, the car is sitting slightly high my dad said its like a mini jeep now
at least the job is done though. happy days
did a bit of cleaning in between.
we took the seats out and the carpets also and steven recons the car is solid and no visable rust so far
got it scrubbed and hoovered on the inside so now just have to do a tony job and get polishing
Fiona
p.s big thank you to TMG for lending out the compression tool steven says your never getting it back
