Mini 50 @ Mondello - June 14th

Post by Billy »

No doubt everyone involved with Minis will be aware that 2009 is the 50th Birthday of the Mini and that there's all sorts of events planned around the world to celebrate. Ireland will be no exception.

Back in 1999 for Mini 40, the IMOC celebrated this milestone by creating the Mizen to Malin Run which is still going strong 10 years later. For 2009, the club committee wanted to do something even more special and we are delighted that in association with Irish Vintage Scene, the Irish Mini Owners Club will celebrate Mini 50 at Ireland's premier race circuit, Mondello Park in Co. Kildare.

Following discussions with Tom Heavey of IVS, we can confirm that the Mini will have star billing at Classic Car Live 2009 at Mondello on Sunday 14th.

This is a great opportunity for the club as it will give us exposure to a wide audience among the Irish car scene from all around the country. All Minis and Mini clubs will be welcome to participate at this event and IVS will be helping us advertise over the coming months.

The plan for the day is still being finalised by Mondello but the plan is looking as follows:

1. Concours Competition for all Minis entered;
2. Parade Lap of Minis around the track;
3. Mini Racing as per the 2008 event;
4. Mini Trade Stands offering parts for sale.

Image

The choice of June 14 as the date for Mini 50 @ Mondello is perfect for the IMOC as it avoids a clash with the Mosney Show on June 7th. Needless to say, the IMOC will also be represented at Mosney during this important year for the club.
This show and its format will be so much more that the typical static show with the obvious benefit of the parade laps and racing adding to the excitement of the day and keeping everyone occupied during the day.

There will be a lot of club input needed in the planning and running of the Mini 50 @ Mondello and our club Events Co-ordinator Aidan McGrath will be looking for volunteers to help out with the work involved. Aidan can be contacted at 087-2309324.

Keep an eye on this forum for more details of Mini 50 @ Mondello in the coming weeks.

Also just to clarify unlike last year when there was a pre 85 limit on minis because they want to keep this a classic car show(even pre 85 was bending the rules a little)the Mini 50@Mondello is open to all classic minis and we would welcome the very latest minis so that we can show mini development down through the years.Maybe Chris will bring along his 02 C mini. :D Also variants eg mokes,elfs,hornets,innocentis,authis,vans,pickups,estates,woodys,kit cars and customised minis are all very welcome so that we can show what will be a large audience the many facades of the mini.

Absolutely, we definitely want as many permutations of Minis as possible so we'll add GTMs, the odd Marcos, Jiffy, etc to the list.

I will motor up to this I reckon. Is there an entry fee lads ?
And I said, Officer, I didn't want to be drunk in public...I wanna be drunk in the bar. Now last time I checked it was still legal to be drunk in the bar. They threw me into public...arrest them!

Hi Andy,

Classic Car Live at Mondello had its first show last year and the organisers had an age cap of 1985 which meant most of our members couldn't bring their cars. This year because of Mini 50, we were approached to put together a display of Minis and brought up the age limit issue with them. The response is that an exception will be made for Minis up to 2000 but not for later cars i.e. MINIs. MINIs have always been welcome at the National Mini Day shows held by the IMOC in the past but I'm afraid not this year. Feel free to contact Mondello yourself. If you have a Mini, you will be very welcome to attend.

Andy,

By all means bring your MINI to Mondello and enjoy the show but the stewards will direct you to the public car park.

If you decide to attend, be sure to say hello.

Tommy (and everyone else),

All bookings must be sent to Mondello directly and clearly marked that you are bringing a Mini.

If you don't prebook, you will be directed to the public car park.

We're very grateful to IVS & Mondello for providing the platform to show off all the Minis this year but we're not running the logistics of the event and must do as everyone else.

Hope that clarifies the situation.
