Next Eastern region meeting and Economy run.

Post by kerryminigringo »

The Eastern Region will be holding their next meeting at 12.30 on the 8th of March in the Clonsilla Inn.This will be a chance to discuss upcoming events in what promises to be a busy year for Mini enthusiasts.Afterwards we will be holding a recession busting event to find the meanest car in the region. The event will be an economy run to see whos car has the biggest aversion to petrol. All participants will fill up at a nearby station and the filler will be sealed, mileage noted, route book given and off you go.The routebook will get you to a check point were mileage and seals are checked and the second routebook will get you to another filling station where the tank will be filled by a member of the organisers and then we will adjourn to a local pub where the results will be revealed. So if you have a smoking 1380 or a red hot 998 come along and pit your gentle right foot against the rest. The finish point will be about 20 mins North of the Dublin Airport so we hope to see you there.

Ah poo(!!),

Two events clashing on the same day.
I plan to go down and join Billy & Co at the Charleville Vintage Rally that day to give the car a good run.

Anyone else going to Cork?

It will happen from time to time but feel free to attend the event of your choice Tony, there will probably be another economy run later in the year and we will look to combine a couple of the regions for an All Ireland event.

Just finished the route this evening and it is a nice spin with National, local and some "scenic" roads included so get them tyres pumped, empty those boots and glove boxes, take off the IMM roof boxes and get ready for the economy run this Sunday.Should be good fun.

Have decided to do the Economy Run as opposed to treking down to Charleville what with the weather forecast being on the inclement side.

Only thing is, as mentioned in an earlier post, my odometer has stuck at 60,099 so I may not be eligible for the readings aspect of the task.
Regardless, I'll participate in the run anyhow for the craic.

Am hoping to possibly get some advice about adjusting my rear suspension if the right minded person/people are present :)

Don't worry about your speedo Tony, KMG knows how long the course is, 8)

I have a bicycle speedometer rigged up to the 84 Sprite, the magnet is mounted on the inner CV joint and the pick-up is on an engine steady bar.

You can see the pick-up in the bottom of this pic.

The Speedometer itself is then wired up on the dash

I hope that the run was good fun today?

Circumstances prevented me from making it today-my pals' long time relationship recently ended and she was in need of some TLC this weekend so she stopped off with us last night and much alcohol was consumed by us all as we (tried) to solve the problems of the world!
Needless to say, we didn't and our heads told us so this morning!
But hey, sometimes we need to do these things :)

Looking forward to seeing some pics online here at some stage......

Well a big thanks to KMG for organising todays Economy Run, and well done to all who took part. Kieran acted as the Snapper for the day, so expect a pew pic later on.

Todays course was a fairly flat route and so the opportunities for coasting were few and far between, it was split into two sections with the first route book bringing competitors to Slane and the second route book got them to the finish at Julienstown. Thankfully no one got lost on the 46.6 miles, although one crew did miss the midpoint turn off and added an unnecessary few miles to their trip.

As he has already let it be known, Rory's 998 Mini was the thirstiest car on the day, not helped by the leaking petrol cap he managed an average of 19.2 miles to the gallon  perhaps the Zeemax kit isn't as aerodynamic as you would think.

At the other end of the scale we had todays winners who managed to squeeze 50.7 miles to the gallon out of their 1275 Mpi, Killian O'Carrol and navigator Milton Flynn used only 4.16 ltrs of unleaded for the run. Well done to both.
A mention too for the runner up Gavin Donnelly who only lost out by 1/10 ltr of petrol, about an egg cup full, but there will be other days so Killian had better watch out.
Third place went to Martin Murphy and crew, a worthy reward for the farthest traveled competitor on the day.

Again thanks to those who took part and we look forward to seeing you all at the next round later in the year.
