"The Southern Region will host a run in Kerry on the 3rd Sunday of January, the week after the club's annual New Year's Lunch & Table Quiz.

Local member Dick Mason is preparing a run for us again.

We will be meeting at 11.00 in Killarney at the Topaz (formerly Shell) petrol station on the roundabout on the Cork road.

Lunch will be included in the itinerary for the day along with some lovely scenic roads.

All members welcome to the Southern Region's first run of 2009.

Billy"

The weather might be iffy on Sunday but there's a decent crew expected in Killarney.

Sunday's weather is for occasional sunny spells with wintry showers.

I just spoke with Dick Mason and the run is definitely going ahead.

See yawl at 11am in Killarney.

Well the excuses went something like this: Emmett had broken his leg, Ed couldn't fix his wipers in time, John N. had gone skiing, Tom Cork's steering went la-la last night etc. etc.

Anyway in the finish we had 7 lovely Minis from Cork, Kerry, and Clare. For Pat, Conor, and Sinead it was their first run with the club. Car of the day was a hard one to call between the return of Brendan's newly sprayed Smoke Grey or Conor's red 1380. Both were beautifully finished. Pat the Baker felt he would have been in the running if we had passed a power wash (or three) along the way!!!!!

After everyone that met her for the first time asked her, Sinead would like to categorically state that her 94KY Mini 35 did NOT belong to Elma Groves in a former life!

Dick Mason set the route and it was straight up to Molls Gap and a leisurely drive down Black Valley which was absolutely breath taking with the snow on the mountains above us and the waterfalls running into the river.

We had rain, hailstones, sleet and lovely blue skies all in one day. Lunch was at Kate Kearney's Cottage where we had a corner to ourselves. Overall a very enjoyable day. On the way home, I took a detour to see if the 20-mile Cooper Sports is still in the Daihatsu garage in Mallow and sure enough it's still there.

Great to see minis that have not been out on runs before enjoying the Kingdoms unbeatable scenery and great to see Brendan back in the mini scene again.Last time I saw that car it was all white and I have to say that the change in colour suits it.Wish I could have been on the run today,I was telling Billy that I used to cycle it once a week during the summer when I lived in Killarney many moons ago althought I am not so sure I could manage it now.

Emmett,

I've have to lend you my automatic. You'd have to hide the crutches in case you were stopped.
