too cut or not to cut?

Post by pick up man »

I'm looking for people's opinion. I got a 87 mini mayfair which the body is in a bad way. It needs a new boot floor, complete rear end, door skins, new floors plus a new roof due to a very leaky sun roof. So i was thinking of turning it into a shorty mini which i wanted to do for a while.

87 would need an NCT, rather you than me!

It would be fun trying to get a Mini shorty on the rollers for the brake test at an NCT.

What about chopping it down to make an autotest special? You wouldn't have to worry about NCT etc and we'd have a club member to support any any events.

The autotest is a good idea but i was thinking more about driving on a sunny day with no roof. I don't think the NCT is going to be a big issue once the car is sound it should pass.

But what about insurance? Any convertible is going to attract a loading and they could ask you for an engineer's report on top of it all.

With vintage (over 30 years) it's all much easier
