ok, i was originally on the look out for a project mini, got redirected to a bargain project on a different mini site but the project was in england, london...
phoned my cousins husband who are living in london to find that he is also selling his mint 89 racing flame mini
head started thinking and the calculating started ....
boats, van rental, petrol, insurance, food, (free) accommodation,vrt, loan and being about €4000 poorer..
i had thought about doing this a few years ago as well for obvious reasons minis being alot cheaper in england.
i plan on doing this by bringing my brother who will be driving the van, put the shell with lots of heritage panels, a 998 and a 1275 engine and lots of boxed parts from the mini in the van. visit my cousins, stay there for a night or two buy his mini and drive back to the boat while staying in contact with my brother via some walkie talkies

has anyone ever done this before and how did they go about it??

any info, advice much appreciated..

You'll need a fairly big van, although you could put the Shell on its side,

I honestly think it's cheaper at the moment buying a Mini in Ireland the way prices are going lately and you don't have VRT etc to worry about. And I have brought Minis in from the UK in the past.

i am waiting for a reply from my cousin but i think that his mini was already on irish plates before.
He lived here for a few years before going back to england, so i might not have much issues with the vrt and there might just be a small fee for re-registering it .. fingers crossed...

was onto my cousin today, the car was on irish plates which he still has along with the logbook...
will i still have to pay the full vrt even when presenting these to the dvla or whoever it is you notify???

If he still has an Irish log book, then you should be able to tax it on the system with just a change of ownership form, I'd say.
