Welcome to the Irish Mini Owners Club forum. Celebrating 30 years of the Irish Mini Owners Club, 60 years of the Mini, 50 years of the Clubman and 20 years of our flagship event MTM
I have just had a delivery of my brand minisport 1380
I will start to fit it the 1st week of my easter holiday and hopfully have it finnished by the end of the 2 weeks. i have a pic of the engine.
and of my car.
You'll find it a little easier if you remove the altinator and dizzy before you try to take the engine out, just be sure to mark the position of the dizzy with a blob of Tipex before you remove it.

i finally found a engine hoist so it is now out. Not without a struggle, to start with the passengers side drive shaft would not come out for about 2 hours, then i found the hoist that i had borrowed had a dodgey O ring, so it would not hold the engine. I had to use a jack and a long bit of wood to push the hoist up, luckily this worked, so today, it will go back in
because the old engine had a lot of running problems and the electronic ignition is the only thing that did not get changed on that so as the new one came with somthing eles i thort i would change it now
i was doin the last job thismorning putting the dizy in but then realized that there was no drive gear for it in side the engine
now i have to take the hole thing out again and have it sent back to england and put together propely.
lucklly my cousin has a spair car that i can use in the time i am waiting but its a polo.
but hopefully that wont be for to long as my younger brother has just found a cluby estate and he said i can drive it if he gets it.

No need to take engine out ,drive simply pushes in.Make sure to set it at the right angle, see Mr.Haynes for the diagram.I think your car was originaly points so the wires should be in the loom.Join your point cable to the white/black on the loom.
thanks for your advise but we spoke to our local mini expert and he told us that new engines dont normaly come with the dizy drive and that they will come out of the old one and go in to the new one without dismanteling the thing so we did that and it now works i will take it to my local garage 2muro to get the timing done with a strobe light then its a nice 1000miles of not going over 300rpm
1000 miles at under 300rpm !!!!!! that would take you 200 hours.
when I run in an engine I keep it to 2000rpm for the first 200 miles, then raise it by 500rpm every 150 miles after that, just giving it the odd short blast from time to time, engine is run in by 1100 miles. Luckily for me, my parents house is 52 miles from Longford, so it's a handy run and you get a break for a cuppa too.

i ment 3000rpm but i cant do that till next week as i am going to england 2muro but i drive 50 miles a day going to school and back so it wont take to long but the bit of driving that i have done so far is great it has so much power
drove it to school to day and its not great as it is backfiring and making really loud cracking bang sort of noice so i took it back to the garage that did the timing and they will look at it tomuro so its back to the polo
