Post by Johnd101 »

Hi all just recently after buying a 1987 mini city new to the mini world. (own a Morris minor as well) it's rough as they come but solid in all the right places and welding doesn't scare me.. Will keep a rebuild thread open. Thanks for looking

Did it come complete or do you need to buy lots of parts?

What are your plans for it?

Good luck with it!

Came pritty much as is. Got a few parts with it but will need a massive amount of other bits.. Sticking a standard engine and box in it and an rc40 exhaust. I got the 4 spots for a cross the grill with it as well.. I'm planing on a colour change on it as well hoping to go purple with a white roof.. It won't by any means be a quick turn around but it will be different than any other project I have taken on

If you only have whats in the picture I would not start buying parts yet. Concentrate on getting the body solid and if that works out than start sourcing the rest.Every good mini starts with a good body otherwise you'll spend more time fixing it than driving it. A good set of doors ,boot and bonnet could cost you over a grand which I guess is more than you paid for the body. This forum is a good source of parts and information. Keep the photos coming and good luck with the build.

Personally I like to use Heritage Panels from either Somerford Minis or Minisport. M Machine panels are pretty good also in less visible areas. You get what you pay for.

This is a good website for technical drawings of the body, shows you each panel for each area, helps figure out what panels you'll need.

Wow thanks what a great website. I'll start ordering as soon as. Can't wait to do it. Wasn't sure which to get as in heratage or pattern. On the Morris it depended what the country of origin was important as to the fit and thickness of the panel or how much working it needed. Thanks again for the replys
