Hi guys I fit a new electric dizzy and ballast coil to my 1275 engine, I’m not sure if it is at Tdc at the moment is there any quick way of finding out if it is or setting it to Tdc that I could do at home? Or would it cause a lot of damage to try turn it over as it is at the moment so long as it is set that it will send a spark to cylinder 1 at the moment. Thanks a million

Depending on the type of engine A or A+ the timing marks will either be on the flywheel or pulley wheel. There are two TDC in the cycle of a fore stroke engine and it is important when setting timing that number one cylinder is at TDC after the inlet valve has closed.

Hi so the marks are on the wheel and not on the belt? The engine starts now that I’ve changed the distributor but I won’t drive it until it’s timed properly

The belt on a mini is only a fan belt not a timing belt, minis have timing chains.
The fact that it starts means that it is not too far out and should be easy to time in with a timing gun.

Yeah but are the timing marks on the actual puppy? One of the guys in work is going to look at it on Friday for me and get it timed. I’m just looking forward to getting it going and out on the road. I’ll keep you posted thanks a million

Like I said in my first post ,it depends on which engine type.
If its the original engine in the car tell me the year and model or even post a picture of the engine.

Ok thanks I’ll put a picture up tomorrow it’s parked in the fire station at the moment. It’s registered as a 998 but it’s an orange engine and I looked up the plate on the engine and it says it’s a 1275
