MTM 2019 The final count down

Post by kerryminigringo »

With MTM 2019 just around the corner I would again thank you for signing up for an epic day of Mini driving on some of the best and scenic roads that Ireland has to offer. With just a couple of days to go until we line up for MTM 2019 now is a good time to start or if you have been proactive, finish preparing for the big day.
All participants are reminded to ensure that their car is in roadworthy condition and in good mechanical order so as to cover the 450 aprox miles from Mizen Head to Malin Head. The recovery crew will maintain a steady pace behind the last Mini but should you deviate from the route or spend an inordinate amount of time sightseeing, you may be left behind and the recovery crew may not be able to help you should you need assistance. And remember that it is a RECOVERY service and not a breakdown service so if you are unfortunate enough to suffer a breakdown they will endeavour to get you on your way but any large scale mechanical problems will leave them no other choice than to load up your Mini and leave it to a safe place.Proper preparation of your Mini should help to ensure you complete the event without a hitch and will also enable you to have a better experience without the stress of breakdowns.Any small problems should be fixed as they can lead to bigger problems on the day. Also as this event is being held on public roads it is up to each entrant to ensure that their Mini is in full compliance with the rules of the road and has proper insurance cover, tax and NCT where applicable. The top ten breakdowns listed by the AA are
1. Flat or faulty battery
2. Flat or damaged tyres and wheels
3. Keys and immobiliser
4. Alternator faults
5. Ignition problems
6. Fuel
7. Starter motor
8. Cooling system
9. Clutch problems
10. Cambelt.
While some of these are not applicable to Minis, most are and it gives an indication of common problems so if you give all these items the once over and make sure your Mini is hail and hearty come the morning of the 11th then chances are that you will have a breakdown free MTM.
Below is a list of suggested items to bring with you:
1. A fully inflated spare tyre,a can of tyre weld, a jack and wheel brace.
2. Oil, Brake Fluid,a small jerry can of petrol & Water/Coolant.
3. A set of spanners. 7/16", 1/2", 9/16" will cover most things.
4. A fan belt, head gasket and a set of points (make sure they are the right ones for your Mini)
5. A coil and a condenser(make sure they are the right ones for your Mini)
6. A bottle of good rad sealer.
7. A mobile phone/charger and a warning triangle.
8. A tow rope,flash light.
9. A Sat Nav would be useful.
10. Enough cash to pay for your accommodation, petrol, food, and drink

Timetable for MTM 2019
Friday 10th May
Event sign in at Hacketts bar,Schull from 4pm to 8pm
Saturday 11th May
Minis gather at Mizen head for 5.45am
First car leaves Mizen head at 6am SHARP(If you are late heading to Mizen head on Saturday morning you WILL be met with Minis departing the car park at 6am.It is a narrow road and you will meet them head on so make sure you are on time)
Breakfast and fuel stop 7.15am-7.30am
Lunch stop and second route book handover 12.30pm-1pm
First Minis arrive at Malin head 7pm.
Sunday 12th May
Finishers award presentation 11am
Inisowen Gateway Hotel.
This is a rough guide and times will vary from the breakfast stop onwards due to cars varying speeds and progress. As there is a long distance to be covered over the course of the event we would recommend a steady pace so as to avoid being out on the road late into the night.
Food will be served in the Inisowen Gateway in Buncrana until 10pm on Saturday evening.
Looking forward to seeing you all in Schull
MTM 2019 team
