Updated Rules in the FOR SALE section

Post by The Marcos Graveyard »

Following on from a committee meeting in Kilkenny at the end of last month, it was decided to update the rules of the FOR SALE section of the Club Forum and as such the wording and the rules on the main page have been changed. They now are as follows:

MINI RELATED FOR SALE ITEMS ONLY

All for sale items must be accompanied by :
(1) a PHOTOGRAPH of the item in question
(2) a specific PRICE (no "open to offers")
(3) the seller's/item LOCATION
(4) a contact PHONE NUMBER

For Sale posts not conforming to these rules will be deleted.

All items listed must be the personal property of the seller, and hold the title to said item(s).

The Irish Mini Owners Club, and its officers provide this service as a service to its members and Mini enthusiasts in good faith and do not endorse or confirm any detail or claim pertaining to items posted by individuals using this forum.

We are looking into creating a template that will require set information to be filled in prior to posting an item for sale and this will be adopted in due course.

We had a discussion about it and this is the way we've decided to go. The For Sale and Wanted sections are free to everyone whether they are paid-up members or not but going forward, it can only be Mini-related.

fair play lads

what about having no "pm offers", ie. once an item is posted for sale here it should be replied to here,
save somebody looking at an item and getting their hopes up only to find that the item has been sold off forum :?:

I agree that this is a Mini forum and there have been a few odd things offered for sale along the way. I would be in favour of a Non-Mini "For Sale" thread, but not a "Buy and Sale" type. For example, someone could be selling a 1.3 5-speed Suzuki Swift (Complete or engine only) and I am sure some members might be interested in it for their mini projects (KMG?). So as long as the items are Mini or Car related then they should be allowed.

I agree with the new ruling, its a Mini forum and should continue as such. There are several other outlets that accommodate the sale of items ie. cars or other, we could be opening a hornets nest here.

Well I too have been posting "NON MINI" Items on the forun for sale too

Only rececently I advertised and sold a Fiat Punto sporting
And let it be known I sold it to a Member on this forum who would not have known it was for sale if it was not posted here.

In my opinion I think its very narrow minded to go down this road.

Why cant we offer on the forum other "CAR" related items to members.
The Punto I sold is the perfect example

In these times of recession if any member of our "community "can offer another member anything at good value it should be at least considered

I do believe the IMOC is trying to move forward but this will not assist it .

And also having to post your phone number on a public frum is madness

Not trying to pick a fight here but we are trying to moving forward and we seem to be with a few new people jioning the forum and the new Bebo site seems to have brought one or two people to to this weeks Wexford run but IMOC stands for Irish Minis owners club therefore trying to move our Mini culture forward. I respect the new rules as they do line up with what the forum is all about. And as for the phone number, I personaly don't min it on the forum but I can understand what people are getting at and I also respect that.

And I have not forgotten about the mr2 that I advertised in the 'for sale' section so I am guilty of that crime!

Surely including your phone number gives you a far better chance of flogging whatever you're selling. Be aware that the club advertises this forum all over the place and many potential buyers will be just browsers who can't PM as they haven't signed up.

Gents
If I may have a word on the telephone number point, I will admit Im not an IMOC member and maybe Im speaking out of turn but I dont think its wise to be posting your telephone number on a public website.
I have sold many parts over the years and never would I post my number, in fact a few of the sites I visit your forbidden from posting a telephone number.
I have spoken to many people who, once their number is out in public have had all sorts of calls, stuff being delivered from takeaways etc etc.
Its not worth the hassle, one way round it is to open a free e-mail address from AOL/HOTMAIL/YAHOO etc that way you only need check your email address once every so often to check if you have any queries about the item for sale and the person looking for the item can contact you direct.
Your then sanitised from any direct hassle.
Just my thoughts on the subject.

It wouldn't take someone long to sign up if they were interested in buying something.

Most Forums recommend not posting up phone numbers for the reasons Sprintmini gives

Niall, if you don't want calls at 2am, turn it off before you go to bed

Seriously, if someone wants your landline, they can pick up the phonebook yet only a minority of the population go ex-directory. My mobile is listed in 3 editions of the Golden Pages but I don't get pizzas delivered etc. (though that could change after writing this post!). It's also given out with every MTM entry or relevent IMOC listing in Irish Vintage Scene every month. The same applies for the 3 regional reps who give out their mobile numbers on behalf of the club. Martin has given his number out for this Sunday's Wexford run. If it's OK for us, it should be the same for all other users of this club forum.

I really don't think this is a big issue and can only increase the chances of selling your wares.
