Hi everyone hope everyone doing ok has anyone ordered anything from mini spares sense brexit will be needing some stuff soon any info on vat and import duty would be great thanks

Ya seen that just that getting bits for 2 cars price is comeing in at £1250 inc 30.50 for DHL no vat.after hearing all sorts of stories about people getting stuff on eBay and the like then sending it back because of import cost and some waiting a long time for it to arrive

That doesn't seem correct. If Minispares are charging exports net of VAT than you have to pay Irish VAT @21% on your purchase. What they have shown may only be the Duty on imports, minimum €14.50 or 2.5%. You add duty to the purchase price and than add 21% vat. I think.

Have just placed a small parts order, ~ €70 worth so we'll see what extra charges are added by DHL...

I ordered parts worth about STG£100 a few weeks ago. I got a text from DPD UK saying that I owed €30 which included a €6.50 brokerage charge. This had to be paid (by paypal) before they would ship the parts to Ireland. With no Parcelmotel for the time being, we better get used to it.

Got email from DHL asking for payment to proceed with delivery.

€15.66 VAT + €5 "Payment Deferment Risk" so €20.66 in total.

Parts + Shipping came to £62.45, pre brexit this would have been £75.56 with vat @ 21%, then at £1=€1.14 rate, that is €86.17

Parts + Shipping £62.45, at £1=€1.14 rate, €71.22, plus €20.66 for VAT and DHL "fee", comes to €91.88

Total cost difference + €5.71

So not too bad for this small order, but I guess if I had to order all my panels this month, I would have been looking at much higher amount for the DHL fee.

Over €150 and duty could start to apply to the parts depending on where they are manufactured under the rules of origin. No vat charged in the UK so you have to pay it here on the goods now. A small order would be ok like Colin says but a big order could have hefty charges.

If you look at the Government ie website for import duty charges on goods over 150 euro, they can be a little eye watering.

Additionally, different items attract different VAT rates

Hi all, apologies if this is a stupid question but I’m a newbie when it comes to importing parts / accessories.

I believe that there is no import charge for car parts from the UK. Does anyone know if that includes alloy wheels? I have my eye on 4.5" x 10" Cooper S Replicas (link below) but I’m wary of additional charges on top of the VAT. I’d appreciate some guidance.

If the wheel and tyre are manufactured in the UK there should be no duty and the retailer needs to specify this on the import documents. If any of the items are imported into the UK and than exported there is Duty. You need to ask Minisport.

Last month I ordered items from screwfix.ie. Turned out they had to come from the UK. They were held in UK customs from some unknown reason and one month later (this week), I demanded and got a full refund. Moral of story: push Minispares to sort problem or get a refund.

There was some leeway being given on paperwork but now has to be 100% or the goods are being stopped or even returned.

Quick update on this, got a payment request from DHL

VAT - €69.68
Customs Duty - €5.83
Payment Deferment Risk - €14.50
CS Charges - Multiline Clearance - €25

So in total an extra €115!

Parts came to £280 (€330) including shipping, ex vat

€330 + €115 vat/fees = €445

If I had to order and deliver to N. Ireland total would have been €381, saving €64!

So much for the savings I made ordering on the black Friday sale

I assume the €330 included a delivery charge that Minispares pay a courier to deliver the goods to you so why is the Multiline Clearance not included in that.
What is Payment Deferment Risk and who is that being paid to?

Yes, that included the shipping charge of £18 from minispares.

I have just popped off an email to minispares to see if the can shed any light on the multiline clearance fee.

I have paid the extra for this order, so at least I can get the parts into my shed and hopefully get the engine and gearbox reassembled over Christmas!

Got a generic reply from minispares regarding this that they don't have any involvement or influence in setting these import costs.

Hi, im sick of getting robbed with customs charges,iv recently started using parcel motel in belcoo anything I’ll be ordering from the uk will be posted there,(the chemist) then they charge a small handling fee depending on size of goods.Hopefully this can help some people out

FYI - My folks were in the UK all last week to spend Christmas with my younger brother and his family. I managed to get a decent list of parts shipped from Minispares which they brought back last night via the ferry. My dad did open the parcel and dispersed the parts throughout the car prior to travelling home. Customs inspected the boot, so I think if there was a decent size parcel visible it might have raised questions.

Main bearings ordered from minispares, I selected royal mail standard rather than DHL, as was £10 Vs £18.

UK price £24.28 (7.5% discount, less VAT) + £9.97 postage, total £34.25

The sooner the little car company in Holland updates its website the better. I wont be ordering anything from the UK. Got caught for €32 customs on a £60 panel last week after paying £25 postage too. Not worth it.
