Re: Anyone fitted the Minispares 12" to 10" kit?
I probably will once I've everything up and running with the 10" setup. I'll post it up when I'm ready to off load them.

Re: Anyone fitted the Minispares 12" to 10" kit?
A bit of experimentation later and some input from the folks over on theminiforum and it looks like it might be sorted. It appears that I need to removed the rear shield to allow the assembly to be fitted without binding.

Anyone fitted the Minispares 12" to 10" kit?
I just started fitting the 12" to 10" brake conversion kit I got from Minispares. Everything was going ok until I started to fit the new disc & drive flange. The new disc is deeper then the original disc so that when I tighten up the hub nut the disc is getting bound against the swivel...

Re: Front Subframe Replacement - Engine In Place
I'll have a go at straightening it during the week hopefully I'll get it close to where it's supposed to be. I've ordered a set of the adjustable tie rods, I was hoping that they would do as you said i.e. compensate if the bracket isn't in the exactly the right spot. Glad to get a second opinion :) ...

Re: Front Subframe Replacement - Engine In Place
The reason I'm asking is that I've damaged the front tie rod mounting (broken the welds & twisted the bracket a bit). I'm going to attempt to get it back to it's original position and re-weld it but I'm assessing what I'm going to have to do if I can't fix the mounting.

Front Subframe Replacement - Engine In Place
I believe it's possible to replace the front subframe with the engine still in place. I thought I'd see if anyone here has done it before and if they have any advice/things to watch out for?
Thanks,
J.

Re: classic insurance ?
Join the Irish Vintage Society and you should qualify for their insurance scheme with FBD as the car only has to be 20 years old.

Re: Sparco Harnesses VS Gardai & NCT
Quick update, not long back from the NCT centre the car passed no problem - there was nothing mentioned about the 3-point harnesses I have fitted.

Re: Sparco Harnesses VS Gardai & NCT
Someone I know running 3-point harnesses told me he did get stopped because the Garda couldn't see a belt running from the B pillar to his shoulder when he was following him but once he saw the harness he was happy enough to let him continue. I'm in the same boat as you, the car was missing the pass...
Re: oil
Ok then I think I'm grand, mine has only 28k on it and I'm in the habit of changing the oil in all my cars at about the 3/4k mark
Re: oil
first off make sure the correct weight oil was used; 20w50 should be used but most mechanics forget about the gearbox and use 10w40 which is to thin and can damage the gearbox. Interesting you should say to use 20w50, I just did a change yesterday but used 10w40 because that's what was the Haynes m...

Re: A few questions about my 1988 998cc Mayfair
My brantz sensor arrived today so I'll see about fitting it at the weekend as part of my general check of the rear brakes. Thanks for the heads up on the engine steady, I'll be ordering a bunch of parts during the week to get the car through the NCT (Steering rack gaiters, passenger side wing mirror...

Re: A few questions about my 1988 998cc Mayfair
Good question, I wish I knew :D I'm planning on doing little to the car this year, just get it road legal and enter a few events to get a flavour of what the events are like, next year once I've decided what events appeal to me most I'll start to modify it properly. I'm hoping for this year just to ...

Re: A few questions about my 1988 998cc Mayfair
Good to know thanks!!
I actually have to fit the passenger side seat belt too (also missing), if I need to buy a replacement I'm considering biting the bullet and purchasing a pair of 3 point harnesses instead, has anyone had any issue with harnesses and the NCT?

Re: A few questions about my 1988 998cc Mayfair
The fronts are 3 point but there's nothing in the rear. The plan is to eventually convert the car for retros and multi venue autotests so in the long term I'll be putting in a cage, fitting harnesses and removing the rear seat but until then I want to get the car through the NCT so I'd rather not ha...

A few questions about my 1988 998cc Mayfair
Folks I've recently taken ownership of a 1988 998cc Mayfair and I have a number of questions which you might be help me out with, they are mainly concerned with the NCT and what the car does/doesn't need for it. 1. Would my car have had rear seatbelts? It doesn't currently, they may have been remove...

Thanks for that, I just had a look on mini-chat and there was someone selling a couple of seats a few days ago which would have been ideal for me but they're already sold, ah well maybe next time

What happened to ni-minis.co.uk?
I used to check out the NI Minis site as you'd often find stuff in their For Sale section which would be worth a trip up the M1 but their site seems to have been hijacked, anyone know what happened to it?

Getting Keys Copied Dublin City Centre?
I need to get a set of keys for an 88 Mini copied, I tried the hardware place on Talbot St. but they sent me round to the locksmith on Amiens St. but neither of them have blanks for the ignition key. The locksmith suggested Central Key on North Frederick St. but that's a bit awkward to get to on foo...
