Still hoping,

Billy

At least on my car, the indicator flasher unit is behind the dash held by a spring clip to the frame. The hazard flasher unit was in the engine bay on the passenger side. I've done a bit of rewiring so both units are now in the passenger compartment as are the fuses (changed to blade from the origin...

Take any opportunity to convert to dual circuit brakes. That's one area in which not to take chances! I had an Elan once and a rear brake disc wore through a brake hose. Lost all brakes as a result - real pucker-inducing moment. Fortunately discovered it at low speed when I tried to stop at a juncti...

I transported a Lotus Elan in the back of a van once. Used some car seats as cushions but grit got between them and the Elan and "sanded" the paint. Just a word of caution.
. . . of course, I was transporting 2500 miles across the USA at the time!!

Firstly, I don't want to get involved over who can or cannot take part in any event. I must, however, reply to the comment, "Their replacement was a design that stands out from the crowd the way the Classic did and so attracted those classic owners that require a larger car for everyday use, bu...

Any of the British Motor Heritage dealers has doorskins, other panels, complete doors, or complete shells. Door skins for a late model are £46.25. Go to http://www.bmh-ltd.com/ to find a dealer.

Many thanks. I'll check it out this weekend when I have a bit of time. As in the past, once the incident is over, the problem goes away for quite a while so I'm running ok at the moment.

A bit more info please, TMG. I have replaced the main battery earth cable with a heavy gauge cable direct to the chassis. This wasn't to solve any problem at the time but as a preventive measure. Are you talking about earth cables between the engine and chassis or somewhere else?

Starting Problem

A few days ago, I attempted to start my car to go to work. I was parked nose-down in my sloping driveway as ususl and when I turned the key, all I got was a "clunk". A few more attempts yielded the same result. Let it roll down the drive and popped the clutch then tried it on the key again...

You can also shim the suspension if you don't want to go to the expense of adjustable (Hi-Los). Ratio is 3:1 front and 5:1 rear. In other words for every 0.1 inch shim inserted, the front will rise 0.3 inches or the rear 0.5 inches.

Try any of the Mini parts places, e.g. Mini Spares or Mini Sport. They can deliver overnight if necessary (from UK). I'm sure some of our own Mini specialists can supply them too.

Check your radiator cap. If the spring is too weak or the seal is gone, heat expansion will force water out the overflow. Are you losing a lot of water in a short time or does it go down gradually ove a number of days? How far is it dropping? Are you filling it to the top - if so I would expect the ...

"Also, is it possible to change to unleaded, and how much would it cost? "

Valve seats in the head need to be changed or, better, get an unleaded head and fit it! Plenty of Mini mechanics around to do the conversion if you decide to go ahead.

Not sure where yopu're located but there are a good few Mini service people in Ireland. Ray Cunningham, Galway Mini Centre or Ger O'Leary, Cork, are two that come to mind. Or you could purchase an uprated alternator from Mini Sport, or Mini Spares, etc. I recently had my alternator rebuilt for €45. ...

Can't help with the clutch. If you have a Lucas 16ACR alternator (34 A output) and you're like me, driving to work in the dark and home in the dark on short runs with the lights, heater, rear window defogger and maybe a radio and wipers running, the alternator can't keep up with the load as well as ...
