Re: Help, please.

Why electrics? Well, as long as I kept the revs up it ran normally. If it was a fuel problem, I'd expect it to cut out when the demand was highest, rather than at idle. If the pump was gone, it wouldn't have run normally over 30 km distance. If there was fuel in the carb bowl, it should have started...

Oops! Apologies for the typos on that last post. I was rushing and didn't proof read it before I submitted it.

Re: Help, please.

No joy today. I replaced the condenser and tried again but no luck. The dwell was close to spec and the vacuum line was connected. There is no "coughing" or other sign of ignition. I measured the resistance of the coiul: Primary 1.1 - 1.2 ohms, Seconmdary 5570 ohms. I'll try a new coil next.

Re: Help, please.

Thanks, guys. I can do better than a feeler gauge. I have a dwell meter. I reached a similar conclusion - points, condenser, or coil - and I'll bring all three when I go back out to try and get it running. I hate having to work on it 40 km from home but needs must! Hope it's dry Sunday and/or Monday...

Help, please.

On the way to work, yesterday, my engine cut out as I let the revs drop approaching a red light. It took a bit to get it restarted but then it ran fine for the next fifteen miles or so until the revs dropped again with the same result. Popped the clutch while it was still rolling and it ran ok until...

Re: Squeaks

All,

I wound up replacing the bearing, hub, and ball joints (once it was apart . . . ) and problem solved. Keith was right, water must have made its way past the seal and the bearing was dry. Runs well now, though! :D

. . . and we thought we were behind everyone else! We made sure we didn't leave Gougane Barra until a number of others had, then we stopped at our B&B on the way to Mizen Head so we wouldn't be first there, too!! It was a terrific event, Billy. Fair play to you and your committee. I can highly r...

Yeah, Keith, I suspected the same but was hoping there might be something simpler. Working in the street in January isn't much fun. :(

Thanks, jocelynn. Do you mean "Copaslip"? I'll look at that when I can get some decent weather (no garage). I should mention that the noise is there now even when I do apply the brakes. It becomes a sort of low pitched creaking sound when moving at a walking pace or slower, gradually turni...

Squeaks

Does anyone have any ideas on this? My Mini has developed a squeak related to wheel rotation. At first it was itermittent and stopped when the brakes were applied. It also seemed to go away after 10 miles or so of driving. Now it's there all the time, it seems. I've jacked up the car and pulled and ...

Install relays in the lighting system. It takes the load off the switch and makes your headlamps brighter (less resistance in the circuit). I did mine and the result is great.

Thanks, Woody. I'm looking at early Elans so they'll all be over 30 years old. That should make a significant difference!

"Sorry, but im a bit of a noobie with the mini tuning.. I was just wondering if they would be a bargain or not and was thinking of couple of extra hp. along the way. "
Stage 1 kit is worth 20% more power if set up correctly. I certainly felt the difference in mine. :D

One of the side benefits of doing the run is that my car is running better than ever. Interesting data on fuel economy: Galway to Kilmacrennan, Donegal (includes about 80 miles of city driving) 39.2 mpg. Kilmacrennan to Malin Head to Athlone: 43.9 mpg Athlone to Mizen Head and back to Bantry: 48.2 m...

Congratulations and a huge "Thank you!" to Billy and the 2007 MTM committee for an outstanding run. I hadn't a clue what route we were taking and was surprised to re-enter the Republic (of Ireland, not Cork!) in Cavan but could understand after experiencing the superb roads on offer. Didn'...
