Re: Correct knuckle joint....

Thanks guys. Cones are a good age I think. I'm pretty sure they were a fair bit more compressed than a new one, I'll have to look for a picture. Think I'll put in the washer in the short term so the knuckle joints have the correct height. I'll buy some new cones too, add them to the list. Already bo...

Re: Correct knuckle joint....

Thanks guys. Don't know history of the car too well so it could have been changed before to the the wrong one. It just seems odd that it wasn't rubbing but is now. I bought the spacers so I'll take out kunckles again and fit them. I checked with other side as I replaced both and they were both the s...

Correct knuckle joint....

Hi guys, I replaced my knuckle joints in the suspension for my last NCT. I bought the replacements from minispares. It turns out there are two different versions. The original spec ones,GSV1118MS, or the later ones, GSV1264, that have a taller height in it for a revised suspension design post 1990, ...

Re: Emissions help for nct

Hey guys, I pulled apart the inline fuse and gave the fuse, spring, and contacts a light sanding and hurrah, the fog light is working! Now all I've to do is pick up my NCT cert :D
Cheers for the advice!

I'll give that a go. It didn't seem badly corroded but I'll give it a bit of a sand and hopefully that'll do the trick

Re: Emissions help for nct

Thanks guys. I took a look at the brake switch. I was replacing the accelerator cable and when i replaced the flexible pipe from the wing to the heater unit it was pushing on the brake pedal slightly triggering the switch! (There isn't much space there!) I'll see if that bracket is loose though as t...

Re: Emissions help for nct

Well i passed the NCT yesterday pretty much.... :D HC was 215 so well within the limit which is good. I didn't change anything but it had fresh petrol and took it for a few enthusiastic drives which seemed to do the trick. Thanks for that advice, worked a treat! It still read a low co% at 0.35% but ...

Re: Steering column movement

There should be a plastic Bush that slides over the top of the inner shaft and sits in between the outter and inner shafts. https://www.minispares.com/product/classic/GSV1095.aspx Hey Neil, That's legend thanks! I saw bits of a plastic in there that's all broken. Next thing will be how do i fish ou...

Steering column movement

Hi, Failed nct (amongst other things....) On steering wheel movement. It moves about a mm or more up and down. Its tightened to parcel where it should be. Took steering wheel off and shaft has play within the steering column itself if that makes sense. Should this play be there? I assume not. Feels ...

Re: Correct steering rack lubrication

The proper grease is very fluid like and will have leaked out. Jack the car up on one side and remove the gaiter on that side. Use a syringe to put the grease into the rack and move the steering left and right. OK thanks woody, I'll top it up so and I'll pick up some of that grease. I was going yo ...

Re: Emissions help for nct

A quick pressure test would be to remove the oil filler cap and place your palm over the hole as you rev the engine. If you feel a lot of pressure on your hand it could mean that your breathers are blocked. Old petrol won't help your emmisions as unleaded loses its octane after about a year. Any lo...

Re: Correct steering rack lubrication

Yours is a late model and uses semi fluid grease. I use Castrol semi fluid grease. Thanks woddy. I fitted the gaiters today but didn't out anything in them. There seemed to be grease still in there and was going to leave well enough alone. What do u think? I can always slide gaiter down and add more.

Re: Emissions help for nct

Thanks woody.is 0.014% co definitely a sign shes running too lean? I thought maybe itbwas adjusted really well... :P I was thinking she was burning oil with due to low co with high hc. Hopefully it clears... How would I check high crank case pressure? Try find the pcv and see if there's loads of air...

Correct steering rack lubrication

Hi guys, I've a 91 city with ripped steering rack gaiters so I'm going to replace. However, I'd imagine I should reblube the rack. Haynes manual says to jack up on drivers side and then squirt it in and tighten up gaiter. I'm unsure of which one to go with. Haynes says: "Early models" 0.2 ...

Emissions help for nct

Hi, I've a 91 city that failed nct on emissiosn (amongst other things....). The other bits I can sort easily enough but I don't know anything about carb tuning etc. It passed on CO: 0.014% ( 3.50% threshold) but failed on HC 1228ppm (vs 750ppm threshold) Seems a little odd as if it was running rich ...

Don't bother digging it out just yet, I'm not sure I'll buy one at all to be honest. Was just wondering about experience of guys on here. I've a set of steel rims I got with car that seem to be in good nick. I was this thinking about getting them put on the alloys but if I'm getting a tyre fitter to...

tyre fitting tool

I see there are A few posts on this forum where lads buy and sell second hand tyres and they're also relatively cheap on minispares etc. I can't imagine many tyre places stock 12 inch tyres either! Do many here fit the tyres themselves? If so, do you have access to professional equipment etc? Otherw...

Re: New Welder advice

Hi all,

I bought this in he end. Did my door frame repairs and welded on new skins in relevant places. Also welded in small patch panels here and there. Happy enough tbh. Can dial it down low enough so I'm not burning holes in general. Thanks again for help

As an FYI dimensions are below which I found after a lot of googling! May help others if they need them asap. Measurements are in inches: 1.25 x 1.875 x 0.3125. I got them in abbey seals in ballyfermot which was fairly close to me so handy. Relatively easy to change. Pry out old seal with screw driv...

Hi guys, I'm no expert but got doors done. Drilled a hole below door handle and plug welded it. Welded the skin to frame after I folded it over on the sides towards the bottom. Also welded at top of skin where to it meets window channel and finally seem on side just below window channel where it's h...

Pretty much. don't forget to drain the oil first. Did you try Paul or James Kelly in Minifix, they might be able to sort you out https://www.facebook.com/minifixminispecialistsIreland/ Yeah I've heard people forgetting to drain the oil first haha. Cool, I'll give them a shout, they might have one o...
