Cheers for that. I'll try those over the weekend and see how it goes.
Thanks

Electrics Help
Hi lads, Just looking for some help diagnosing some electrical issues I am having. Its for a 1990 Mini. So for some reason my passenger side dipped beam isn't working and my reverse lights aren't working. I have replaced the bulbs and still no luck. I also replaced the dim-dip relay and the front li...

Re: Final Drive Ratio's
Thanks for the quick replies lads I really appreciate the advice. I am running 13" wheels as well which I should have mentioned. I didn't know it was a complete engine out job. Might have to leave it for the time being seen as I just put the engine in and had to use my mates garage to do it. Un...

Final Drive Ratio's
Hey lads, Just looking for some advice on final drive ratios and what people typically run. I recently swapped out my 998cc engine for a 1275 high compression MG Metro engine. The engine number is 12HA83AA 101408. Its running great but the only thing I have noticed is that the final drive ratio is d...

Re: Insurance policy, massive increase
Autoline are good and don't have an issue with insuring the car classically even if your under 25. I had a few issues with them though. The first issue with them was the 24hr breakdown recovery they give with the policy has a load of terms and conditions its nearly pointless having. When I broke dow...

Re: 1275 upgrade
Yea see I do plan on doing some degree of mods over the next while mainly with regards to the carb and already have stage 1 exhaust. I also don't actually know to what degree the engine has been modified inside as I haven't completely striped it down. The head seems to be the standard one from what ...

Re: 1275 upgrade
I was just speaking with Woody with regards to the above. The main part I am still unsure about getting is the distributor and said I would see what others opinions are on this. Woody gave very good advice and said that the 65DM4 (42664E) dizzy was fitted to the Mg Metros from 1985 on. From what I c...

Re: 1275 upgrade
Yea I had heard the electronic ones work better alright and that they give a bit more power or sumtin. I was looking up what needle to get for my HS4 carb to upgrade it for the 1275 engine and the Haynes manual is saying it is a AAT needle for the cooper 1275 but online people seem to recommend an A...

Re: 1275 upgrade

Re: 1275 upgrade
Yea its out of a mini anyway. I'll have to check about the rod change gearbox but i think so. I just actually got a new radiator there before the 998 went so cooling should be fine. Do I have to use the distributor from the new engine or is it ok to use the one from the 998 as the one on the new eng...

1275 upgrade
Hi, So my 998 engine decided to give up on me a few weeks ago and I am looking to use the opportunity to upgrade to a 1275. I got a 1275 there a few days ago and will be looking to put it in the car this weekend. I read a previous thread saying the Haynes manual is loads of help so hopefully that wi...

How much would you charge for the full upgrade? Mine is a carb setup.
Re: Nct fail?
Sorry its 1990. I must have typed 1980 by mistake. Yea they tested emissions but it is based on the emission limit for the year of manufacture.
Re: Nct fail?
I got it tested in waterford. When they left the car back to me my brakes weren't working either even though they were perfect going into the test and the guy didn't say a word. Realised there a few days ago the split pin holding the brake arm going into back of the master cylinder had sheared and t...
Re: Nct fail?
Yea they aren't fogs. Each of the four spots is like a dual headlight so there is a small bulb which is 5watt (I think) which is on when the dips are on and when the low beams are on and then the other bulb is 55watt i think and they only come on when the high beam is on. The previous owner had thes...
Re: Nct fail?
Hi guys. I also recently had my NCT. Most of the stuff it failed on was legitimate but one thing they failed it on was not having an auxiliary switch for the front four spots. The car has never failed on those before. They are dual bulb spots so when the low beam/dipped headlight is on only the smal...

Re: How to tell if Ballasted or non-ballasted Ignition?
Thanks a million for the help guys. Yea I have a rev counter and I still have points. The black and white wire is connected to the negative of the coil and then back into the loom. It looks to connect to a pink cable but its actually just pink tape covering the connection. I'll check the voltage acr...

Re: How to tell if Ballasted or non-ballasted Ignition?
Yea there is a white and pink one that has resistor written on it which has been cut and then there is a white and black wire that feeds into a pink wire in the loom and that is connected to the (-) terminal on the coil. Is there any way of figuring it out by taking voltage readings from the termina...

How to tell if Ballasted or non-ballasted Ignition?
Hi, I am trying to figure out if my 91 Mini City is running a ballasted ignition or non-ballasted ignition as I need to get a new ignition coil. From what I have read ballasted systems came into place in 998cc engines after 1989 which would mean that mine should be a ballasted system however the ign...
