Re: Valerie the 1990 Mini City
Thanks lads! Getting bits and pieces done when I get the time. Got the engine back into the garage and the head off http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q635/RichyB998/IMG_1677.jpg Cleaned up the 12G295 head, still needs new valve guides and seats though. http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q635/Rich...

Valerie the 1990 Mini City
Hi there, I've started restoring my Mini City 998 after owning it for 2 years. The car itself isn't in bad shape so I'm hoping to get it back in great condition before it deteriorates further. http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q635/RichyB998/IMG_1421.jpg http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q635/Ri...

Re: Air compressors
Thanks for all the replies, I reckon I'll save up and invest in a 200L. It'll be worth it in the end.
I also need a MIG welder first..
Thanks again!

Re: Air compressors
My budget could probably stretch to a 100L, 14CFM, 3HP. Would that do a decent enough job? I will probably end up painting the doors, boot, bonnet separately anyway. Also, where is a good place to look for compressors? I've done the rounds of the websites but most don't have prices or are selling br...

Air compressors
Hi there, I'm looking to buy an air compressor to help me in my Mini restoration. It will be used for powering various air tools and ideally for a respray. I've been doing a bit of research into them and it seems to me like the things to look for are tank size and CFM. What do you guys use? And what...

Winter spin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UNbiE421T4 Forum seems quiet at the moment, my brother and I threw together this video to test out a few GoPro bits he got for Christmas. Thought it might cheer up those of us whose Minis are garaged up for the winter! I'll be making a project thread for my 998 soon.....

Re: Engine rock
Yes! Meant to update this thread much sooner.. I replaced my steering rack and that sorted out my engine rock. The rack I put in wasn't new, but I couldn't feel anything wrong with it. The rack I took out had noticeable play in it. There's still a little engine rock, but its about the same as my dad...

Re: Engine rock
I think I can feel that just driving around Woody, noticed it recently that I could feel a knocking coming through the floor behind the pedals. Better get this rack sorted ASAP!
I have the tower bolts torqued to 67nm, should I try tighter?
Thanks for all the replies!

Re: Engine rock
So, the lads out in Minifix have informed me that my steering rack is bunched. Could a crap steering rack be a source of movement when I let off the throttle? I can feel the rock through the steering wheel.. The engine seems solid when I rock it by hand so it's probably not that. When I'm replacing ...

Re: Engine rock
Thanks for the replies! Head steady is solid, and the engine doesn't seem to move at all when I rock it by hand. So now I'm thinking it could be the subframe. But I replaced the front subframe rear mounts a few weeks ago, and the tower bolts are polybushed. The front teardrop mounts were replaced la...

Engine rock
Hi there, When I let off the throttle there is an annoying clunk as the engine seems to rock forward. It can be felt in the steering wheel and pedals too, and the gear stick noticeably moves forward. It's done this ever since I've owned it. The front lower engine steady was broken when I got the car...

Re: Noob question
I'm 22 also. Pretty much only FBD, Aviva and I think Axa were the only ones who would insure past 10 years old... Crazy I know! FBD were the best IMO, consistently cheap for me and my 998 and very easy to deal with.
Hope this helps!

Cooling system capacity
Hi there, just refilled my cooling system and it seems to be only taking around 2 litres. It's a 1990 998 so the capacity should be 3.5 litres according to Haynes. Thought it was airlocked so I drained it and refilled it very slowly but it still only took 2 litres. Could there be enough residual coo...

Re: Brake issues
Thanks for the input guys! Tie rod bushes are new, pads are new, ball joints done recently enough. Bled the system last week in the corrext pattern according to Haynes. Could be the brake pipes, they do look like they've had a tough life.. I'll check them and the suspension/subframe and clean the di...

Brake issues
Hi all, Was driving home in the Mini earlier on and a girl pulled out in front of me (she was waved out by someone who couldn't see me coming... :x ). I slammed on the brakes and locked up the wheels but the whole car pulled strongly left, straight towards this girls car. Luckily I let off the brake...
