Re: Gearbox puller

No need for a pullers to take the berings out of the layshaft. They are free run case-less bearings and should slide out with your finger if they don't they have sized in the layshaft in which case the layshaft is scrap.

Paul.

Re: rough running mini!

Sounds like points or condenser or both Daniel, its common for this problem to start on a long journey due to the sustained mid range RPM. It is where I would start.

I wise old mechanic once said, Compression, Ignition and if all else fails have a look at the fueling.

Paul.

Re: Fuelling issue ?

Your Spot on Goose, The stepper motor is trying to keep the motor alive when the fuel stops flowing properly through the injector, it is most likely reading an out side limits Fault in the ECU though which will need to be cleared. Your would be as well off getting the injector flushed and the same f...

Re: Fuelling issue ?

Prity Problem with SPI Goose, you have in fact two problems one is as you suspect a dirty or blocking injector, and the second is your idle steeper motor has gone out side limits. It does this to try keep the engine ruining as it runs out of petrol or when it misfires from the dirty injector. Its a ...

Re: engine timing

Woody your spot on the timing mark is view trough a hole in the torque converter housing,
Your also right it is not nessarly to setup the motor on TDC Piston no1 as the timing light is triggered by piston no1 lead.

Re: Electric oil pump

There is a number of after Market electric oil pumps but they are only for pre lube of the engine. The water pump is simply a flow device Ie it makes the water move as such it create no pressure, the oil pump on the other hand create high pressure with very low flow this is where the problem lies. E...

Re: 998cc vs. 1275cc?

It will decently stays going probably indefently as you will reduce the power of the motor by more than Half. 998 heads have tiny inlet and exhaust valves and ports.. Now a 1275 head on an 998 and you have a wining combo

Re: Modifying an 850

850 are a great little engine an respond really to tuning, I have done a number of them over the years and have found with out doubt the best modification for them is a 12G295 head, MG metro cam and a stage one kit, it is required to take a big chuck of the head but otherwise its a simple enough job...

Re: Running In procedure

Kona, if the rings on NO4 have broke up as well then the other two pistons are scrap the reason the pistons have failed like this is detanation caused by over advance ignition at high loads. It is very likley your engine was running on a near standard dizy which is fine with a near standard cam but ...

Re: 12G295 998 Cooper Head question

I have built a couple of these small bore units, As has been said to get any kind of decent upgrade you need to to run flat top Piston some of the 850 had these if I remember it was the 1 cam bearing type, You will have to skim a fair amount of the head to get a suitable compression 9:1 is about as ...
