Just wondering if there were many mk1 cooper S sold in Ireland or is there any way of finding out

Replacing crank sensor, unfortunately old one got halved with piece left in housing. Unfortunately some of it got pushed through into flywheel housing while trying to remove it . I was wondering will it do any damage if left inside.
