Re: Tahiti Blue

Anyone on the site have one though? It looks great in pics but I'll need to see it in person before I decide. I see there's 2 shades of it listed as well, wonder what the other one is like. Do you know if it also came on the new mini's? I spotted a nice blue on one during the week but havent been ab...

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

Dad had a go at it yesterday but reckons maybe it just all needs to come of and be re-done. He mentioned something about someone welding a bracket to it and because of it there's not much adjustment...

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

I'll get dad to advance the time by 10-12deg and up the idle a little although it runs fine the way it is just needs a tiny bit of choke for a few second on startup. It's hard to say if it is backfiring, the exhaust or something is also making a banging noise so hard to tell. How do I know is it fro...

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

It was set to idle around 850 rpm as far as I know. Not sure about the timing, does it need to be advanced a little?

Just keep it stored over here and you can drive it again when you come back from oz

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

Just a thought for you if you think the engine is struggling slightly, was the needle in the carb changed to suit the K&N air filter and intake manifold? If not it might be running a bit lean and it might explain the "struggling" You'd have to ask Steven that because I have no idea! I...

Re: Insurance

Called them there, 30mins later and being forwarded from the lady who couldnt find the car on their system to a lady in the Cavan branch and still no further of.

She had some spiel about it being a 77 that it needs an engineers cert before they can cover me on the car. So much fun this car!

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

Maybe it runs fine and I'm expecting a bit to much? It backfires the odd time but does pull if you feed the throttle. Where would I find out what rpm the engine does at a given speed? There's not rev clock. If I can get it insured and Steven doesn't mind me driving it I might try and make it to the ...

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

Just took her for a spin after putting in new plugs. She seems a little hesitant to pull at low revs, struggled a little going up a hill in 3rd. Maybe it's just how these engine work? Or could it be something thats out a little?

Re: Insurance

They've never been to bad tbh, just under 600 on the BMW, not bad for 2nd year insurance in my own name and fully comp, helps being over 25 I guess. This report thing was the first inconvenience they caused me :P

Re: Insurance

It's the daily driver bit that is the reason they want it. I'm not sure who steven had it insured with but he never had a problem with it. I'll call them this week and see what they have to say.

I'm not that young either TMG

Re: Insurance

I was one to First Ireland about a month ago, 600ish for the mini and the bmw. I'm a good 6 months into my 2nd year with aga now so it's not worth cancelling to go with a different crowd. For the moment the mini will be the only car I have that can drive as well.

Insurance

With the clubman running again I was thinking of changing my insurance to be able to drive it and cause it's a nicer car than the Micra  I enquired about this before and she started going on about a MOT cert because it was an old car. Has anyone had problems with this before and how did you ge...

Very true, if anything a lot of other little things got put right before they to could have given problems.

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

Your all going to laugh... Two of the spark plug (which look brand new) weren't working. We replaced one first when we noticed it and she ran better straight away then checked the other 3 and found another to not be 100%. Took it for a spin with the 2 plug replaced and it drives like a car should. D...

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

She's alive! Dad changed the ignition and got it idling nicely, took her for a spin and she didn't seem 100% hesitating under acceleration.

You'll never guess what that was down to!

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

Dad wired in a different electronic ignition, the right one for the engine apparently. It's turning over but not starting. He took the carb appart yest and cleaned it so between that and the timing being out we're hoping to get them setup and see will it tick over and run.

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

Haven't been at it today, think dad was though. He got it running a bit more stable but he noticed it's losing it's timing?

And after speaking to Steven earlier on he thinks the elec ignition thats on it isn't the right one and there's a different one which we will try tomorrow.

Re: Can't get engine to run right (metro 1275)

We (dad) think the timing is right. He commented on turning the ignition doing very little though. Still runs fine for about 20-30sec and then starts to die again :(

He took the carb apart and didnt see anything unusual.
