Re: Any Piston Experts????
That was my point. It might indicate why only one piston was affected.

Re: Any Piston Experts????
Again, why only one piston? Possible air leak at the inlet on that cylinder? I assume all new gaskets will be used so may never know.

Re: Engine Misfiring
Thanks, guys. My fuel line hasn't moved and isn't on the manifold so vapour lock is not a likely cause. I'll reset the dwell this weekend and think it may be a factor as I noticed today it does seem to occur at higher revs. It just seemed that more dwell=fatter spark so I wasn't looking at that the ...

Engine Misfiring
I have a recent problem with my 998 engine. At times it misses a beat intermittently. When warm, under hard acceleration (up a hill or accelerating on the flat) it can feel almost like it's running out of fuel. I set the timing last weekend but dwell is 59° - 60° vs a spec of 54° with a tolerance of...

Re: Chice of Number Plates
If you want to stay legal, and even though you don't need an NCT, the legal plates for cars of various ages are in the NCT manual page 10 http://www.rsa.ie/SERVICES/upload/File/VT/nctmanual.pdf. Copy and paste the bit between the s into your web browser.
Re: Hilos
Just use a large adjustable. That's what I did when I put HiLos on mine.
Is she running lean?
Not overly. It was tuned to pass the NCT a few months ago but it usually gets richer as time goes on and the symptoms weren't there until the recent cold/damp conditions of the past couple of weeks.

Re: Icing
Thanks for replies but I do have a water heated manifold. Due to the carburettor-to-manifold insulating spacer and the manifold being downstream of the carburettor, this does not help prevent icing in any significant way. What’s needed is heated inlet air. It isn't dampness in the ignition system as...
Icing
Topical in the current weather. Has anyone experienced carburettor icing recently? I have a 998 with Stage 1 kit meaning the air pre-heater is gone. My engine runs fine at speed but I sometimes notice a slight throttle lag after a long high speed run when I let the revs fall. I suspect carburettor i...

Re: wipers & heater problem
Ok. Let's try again. http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb288/city998/MiniFuseBoxConversion.jpg In the photo, you can see the flasher unit to the left of the fuse box. That was left temporarily hanging until I sourced a proper clip and relocated it. I cut a piece of aluminium and pop-riveted it in p...
Re: Leak
Thanks for the update, Steven. First thing I need to do is run a hose or go out in the rain to see where the water is getting in!

I replaced mine and relocated it inside the passenger compartment.

Re: Leak
 Mine is leaking, too, but whenever it rains, not just when driving. At least it's only into the front passenger footwell! :) I had this once a few years ago and found the door liner torn and leaking. I replaced it with some polyethylene glued to the door and that solved it. This time I checked...

NCT Failure
   For the first time ever, my '90 City went through the NCT and I got the comment ". . . everything was perfect!" The beginning of the sentence was "Except for the rust . . . " The dreaded tinworm has gone to town on my door sills, front valence, and the floor jus...

Re: bad bad lights....
Best bet is to install relays so you don't have any significant voltage losses to the headlamps. You may find that the current lamps are perfectly adequate once you are running relays. I converted my Mini and couldn't believe the difference. I was actually getting smoke from the H-connectors to the ...

Just remembered . . . I forgot to say that I have Hi-Los. Not sure if it makes a difference and the rear is not jacked up higher than looks normal but it might be the difference.

Re: Help, please.
Hopefully the last update on this. I found the plastic insulator today and reinstalled it. I'll get a new coil as the one I've installed is over 40 years old! It's good now but for how long?!

Re: Help, please.
Keith, you called it! I remember when I changed the condenser in a cold windy parking lot 40 km from home with intermittent rain showers never far away that I found a plastic part on the ground afterward. I saved it even though I didn't know where it came from or even if it came from my car. When th...

Re: Help, please.
Still no joy, lads. I towed it home (40 km) on Monday after another abortive attempt to get it running. Even tried "tow starting" it with ignition on but it wouldn't fire. I charged the battery overnight and reinstalled it. There's 6 V at the coil (correct voltage through the ballast resis...
