DaveC, I stand to be corrected but as far as I'm aware BMW haven't produced a supercharged production model (exempting the currentish Chrysler powered Cooper S) In fact, they also scorned turbos on road cars until the new 335i. A bit ironic given the fact that they won the F1 world championship with...

Its probably a combination of hard cracked rubber & corrosion. Even with a new shell and a new rubber you will still need sealant so don't get too upset at the prospect. Don't use the generic "sillicone" sealant - sillicone sealant releases acetic acid during its curing stage - hence t...

As stated they do tend to be more linear in their power delivery vs a turbo, which traditionaly suffers from lag and tends to be peaky. Stick the gasket to the head rather than the cover, it stops oil dribbling over the head when you take the cover off.

Cheers, :D

We use "red" sealant to bond the rocker gasket to the head.

Most other gaskets are smeared with Rhodoseal or similar, grease don't work in our experiance.

Gasket + Rhodoseal = no leak - for years.

dilo,

99.9% sure that your alternator is bushed. If your car is a '91 then its running a Lucas ACR alternator. In reality they are not worth repairing, you can buy a brand new unit for around €60.

Eanna, if it turns out to be knackered, I'm interested in it, I'm trying to source a few 1275 blocks at the moment. (hint to other readers...)

Cheers.
