Another Wedding!

Hi folks, I've been out of touch with the Mini scene for the past year due to work and college commitments. However I'm getting married in Galway on Friday 31st and I would love to get a convoy of minis to join the trip from the church to the hotel. We would be leaving Bushypark church around 2:45 o...

Car battery prices

I was justed quoted €124 for an 096 battery in a shop in Galway. Have battery prices really gone that high?

Re: Dead battery

Thanks for the replies. I don't think the alternator is the problem for the same reasons you have described - no warning lights and no problems with electrics once the car gets started. I'll try to get my hands on a trickle charger to see if that makes any difference. I've installed a battery isolat...

Dead battery

I took the mini out of the garage for a spin last weekend. It had spent the best part of the last 4 months in the garage thanks to our lousy summer. The battery was flat so I gave it a jump and took it for the half hour spin into college. When I returned to the car after 3 hours, the battery was fla...

Apparently we're getting a heat wave next week - you might want to hold off garaging it for a few days!

To add to that; First Ireland insured my 95 Spi as a classic for €285 for a limited milage policy - not a bad deal if your pride and joy is not your daily driver

The 063 fills the battery box nicely and is great in cold weather.
Direct connecting should be fine - just remember to start the engine on the car with the good battery before attaching the leads

If it's an injection model it could be the vacuum pipes from the inlet manifold to the fuel trap / fuel trap to ECU: they have a habit of wearing out

Hi John

Remember the fun we had McGyvering fixes on my Vacuum pipes? I ended up replacing the fuel trap and all pipes, haven't looked back since. I have spares at home if you want to give them a try.

Enda

Re: Battery

The 096 is pricier - mine cost 90euro. It fills the whole battery box and you will have to move the securing bar to the other hole. I'm no expert; the 096 does the job and from what I've read, damage/wear to the alternator shouldn't be an issue

Re: Battery

Ya can't beat a good battery debate! I popped the 096 in last night. It's a good snug fit in the battery box. I don't think it will hurt the alternator. It's doing the job anyway, first time in a month I drove it any distance. Must look into putting an isolator as I'm getting a backup and keeping th...

Battery

I put off replacing my battery until after the big freeze. Now that has (hopefully) passed, it's time to go shopping.

can someone advise the best battery for a SPi?
I was also thinking of installing an isolator switch - does anyone have experience/recommendations for these?

Thanks in advance!

Re: mini not holding revs when i clutch?

I had a similar problem with my SPI in the past. It turned out that a couple of hoses need replacing:

From the inlet manifold to the fuel trap & from the fuel trap to the ECU. I know the MPI has a different setup but if might be worth taking a look for something similar

Re: Locked out!

thanks for the advice folks. Car was being moved (not by me) to spray the garage. I got a message to give me the bad news. I'm guessing what happened was that the person who unlocked the door didn't give the key a full turn so the lock slipped back on slightly when the door was shut. A good jiggle o...
